Civic Engagement: Reflection

Even though I feel great about my simple donation toward the SITLA and how
that helps me be more responsible as a citizen, it got me thinking about what other
small things I can do on a daily basis that would bring about the same result. The
idea of learning how to be more responsible as a citizen applies to my General
Studies in many ways, but the one that sticks out to me is being able to take the
information I learn from each course and use it in a way that betters my life, as well
as the overall health of society. I guess it means, at least to me, taking knowledge
and turning it into wisdom that others can benefit from as well. This class helped
me to realize that everything I learn, is something that will benefit those around me,
depending on how I use it. It helped to put things into perspective. Reflecting on my
donation to SITLA, this was just one small fee that adds up to make a big difference.
It made me realize that, every time I am asked to make a small donation, there
really isn’t an excuse to not donate $5 or even less. Every donation/action counts.
