ACTIVITY 2-1
Defining a Website Project

Scenario
The president of Emerald Epicure Ltd. asked you to plan the site before working on its
components. He asked you to take a few minutes to fill in the planning form with your preliminary
thoughts about the website. He wants the site to include everything about olives and olive products,
including growing, harvesting, processing, and global standards for olive oil.
He reminded you that the company sells olive oil and other products from sources around the
world, including Australia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the United States. He asked
you to be sure to include the olive-oriented vacations, events, and festivals held around the world.
He added that the products the company sells includes olive oil, cured olives, olive paste, olive
tapenade, flavored olive oil, olive oil soap, and olive oil–based cosmetics.

Let’s discuss completing the Web Project Planning Form for Emerald Epicure Ltd.

ACTIVITY 2-2
Charting the Website

Scenario
The president of Emerald Epicure Ltd. asked you to prepare a preliminary site map for his review.
He wants to be sure you will include pages for the major products, events, and history. It’s essential
that you list as many page ideas as you can, as you can always combine pages if you need to reduce
the number of pages later. You will list only page subject/titles in outline form.
By using a word-processing application or creating the site map by hand, you would likely produce
something like:

1. Of all the planning tools discussed, which planning tool do you consider the most important?
A: Answers could include any or all of these elements: flow charts, wireframes, storyboards, site
maps, and project management.

2. What components of a website require the most planning?

A: Answers could include any or all of these elements: text, graphics, tables, navigation bars, side
bars, and pages.
