Irrigation - Revival Nectar for Greenery in the Middle East

“A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift;
above all it teaches entire trust. – Gertrude Jekyll”

As I experienced in the Middle East, that greenery is a luxury commodity because of the climatic
adversity and you can also this as in many stories, the story begins from some kind of legendary tree.
Every climatic condition and weather has its own properties of prospering greenery. Here it is very
common species of the desert GHAF (Prosopis cineraria), Prosopis juliflora, Calotropis procera,
Leptadenia pyrotechnica. But mostly these species don’t get space in backyard garden or community
garden as well. These may be lot of reasons.

It is an unsaid obligation to do irrigation once in a day, in peak summer season- it is an

uncompromisable situation as this hot blowing air makes your outdoor plants in open furnaces. The
purpose of highlighting the issues is to create sustainable practices for greenery in residential areas as
well as in commercial projects.

 Using of wind barriers

 Provision of hose pipe irrigation in entire greenery
 Don’t allow soil moisture drop less than 8 % in garden soil, less than field capacity. The plant
survival may reach into non revival state
 Promote local indigenous plants in your landscape planting plan
 Installing of direct root watering system for more water consuming fruit trees

By following these tips, you can save more water and electricity hence your running and maintenance
cost as-well.
