1. For Chemistry:-
Use Solomon’s and Frye’s Organic Chemistry by Wiley for theory of
organic and use MS Chouhan for solving organic questions. Organic is very
important for KVPY so, start early.
For Physical Chemistry, you can use NCERT + Your Coaching Material for
solving or, you can solve just some basic questions from RC
Mukherjee or Narendra Avasthi.
For Inorganic Chemistry, NCERT is necessary and sufficient. No need of
going beyond NCERT in inorganic. Questions are hardly asked from here.
2. Physics:- HC Verma is the holy grail here. You must solve each and every question
of HC Verma and must completely understand all the concepts used in the questions.
(Note:- DC Pandey, though not very apt for JEE Adv Prep, is very very good for KVPY)
3. Maths:- I believe this is the toughest cookie to crack in KVPY. You need a lot of
reasoning ability, ability to understand the various ways you can approach a question.
Practise is the key. The most important book for your Maths prep would be TOMATO
( Test of Mathematics at the 10+2 Level) publised by ISI. You must solve each and every
question of this book leaving Calculus questions. You must notice how to approach the
questions, and the methods which are commonly successful in tackling those questions.
Trigonometry and Coordinate Geometry, these are never asked in KVPY, so you can
use only your school book for doing these.
Those who have previously prepared for NTSE or perhaps RMO, you will not feel that
Maths is difficult and you may prepare according to your wish after seeing the type of
questions.
4. Bio:-
NCERT Bio Class 11 whole and NCERT Bio Class 12 till “Human Health and
Diseases”(Chapter 8) is very very important. You must remember every fine point and
especially the ones written in bold in the book.
Just for the sake of reference, I started studying for KVPY on the evening on which my
boards ended. Throughout those 6 months, I never dared to waste a single day fearing
that I might miss KVPY.
At first I was having difficulty prioritizing my coaching and KVPY Prep, and after some
time, the confusion cleared out.
You need not have looong study hours. I started at 8AM each day and ended at 10.30
PM at max along with 3–4 hours break for usual activities. No need to burn the midnight
oil if you study smartly in the day.
