Proper Choice of Books is one of the most important aspects of

your KVPY SA preparation. Your choice of books will definitely influence your thought

process in solving a question. After a lot of research and recommendation from my
mentors, I have made a list of all the best books which you can use for your KVPY SA
prep and which will give you the right content necessary for KVPY

1. For Chemistry:-
 Use Solomon’s and Frye’s Organic Chemistry by Wiley for theory of
organic and use MS Chouhan for solving organic questions. Organic is very
important for KVPY so, start early.
 For Physical Chemistry, you can use NCERT + Your Coaching Material for
solving or, you can solve just some basic questions from RC
Mukherjee or Narendra Avasthi.
 For Inorganic Chemistry, NCERT is necessary and sufficient. No need of
going beyond NCERT in inorganic. Questions are hardly asked from here.
2. Physics:- HC Verma is the holy grail here. You must solve each and every question
of HC Verma and must completely understand all the concepts used in the questions.

However, KVPY asks some standard questions from Optics. So for Optics you must

use DC Pandey.

I felt that the Electricity and Magnetism portion of HC Verma, is not so good

and not up to the par , so I used DC Pandey for it.

(Note:- DC Pandey, though not very apt for JEE Adv Prep, is very very good for KVPY)

3. Maths:- I believe this is the toughest cookie to crack in KVPY. You need a lot of
reasoning ability, ability to understand the various ways you can approach a question.
Practise is the key. The most important book for your Maths prep would be TOMATO
( Test of Mathematics at the 10+2 Level) publised by ISI. You must solve each and every
question of this book leaving Calculus questions. You must notice how to approach the
questions, and the methods which are commonly successful in tackling those questions.

Trigonometry and Coordinate Geometry, these are never asked in KVPY, so you can
use only your school book for doing these.

For Algebra, Use Cengage. It has lots of questions so no need to do all. Just do Single

Correct ones and cover the theory well from Cengage.

Those who have previously prepared for NTSE or perhaps RMO, you will not feel that
Maths is difficult and you may prepare according to your wish after seeing the type of
questions.
4. Bio:-

NCERT Bio Class 11 whole and NCERT Bio Class 12 till “Human Health and
Diseases”(Chapter 8) is very very important. You must remember every fine point and
especially the ones written in bold in the book.

For Genetics (DNA, RNA etc) watch Neelam Bakore Tutorials in YouTube. She

provides excellent video tutorials for Biology and you must take notes while watching
the videos.

If you purchase KVPY DLP by Resonance , Their BIO material is excellent. So if you

buy it, you must also be thorough with it.

3. Dedication and “Smart Work”:-

Just for the sake of reference, I started studying for KVPY on the evening on which my
boards ended. Throughout those 6 months, I never dared to waste a single day fearing
that I might miss KVPY.

At first I was having difficulty prioritizing my coaching and KVPY Prep, and after some
time, the confusion cleared out.

As I mentioned in the “ Research “ column , You must know what to study. You must

not waste time studying what is not important. You must skip solving questions which
are formula or calculation based. Work Hard but yes, work Smart too at the same
time.

You need not have looong study hours. I started at 8AM each day and ended at 10.30
PM at max along with 3–4 hours break for usual activities. No need to burn the midnight
oil if you study smartly in the day.

4. Practice Mock Question Papers.

I used MyPat and Resonance for solving mock test papers. The most important aspect

of these tests is that you get to know the time division for each Section and in which
Section you need to improve either your skill or your time Management. I would
recommend Everyone to Sign up for MyPat and Resonance Test Series. Alternatively,
there are PrepSera and Career Point mock question papers for KVPY, which you may
use.

If you want to gain an edge over other candidates after all your preparation. Get

the KVPY SA Study Material from Ambitious Eduventures.
It has excellent Bio material (with 1000’s of important MCQ) , detailed solution of
TOMATO, and lots of practice question papers. I also liked the list on all important
Organic Tests with the reagents and observations which is included in the materials.
