Method Statement
For Base Plate Grouting Work

®
Product SikaGrout -215.

®
Description SikaGrout -215 is a dual-shrinkage compensated self-levelling, premixed
cementitious grout with extended working time to suit local ambient temperature.

Tools Required Electrical drill (maximum 500 rpm), paddle/stirrer, air compressor, air compressor,
clean pails and miscellaneous hand tools.

®
Preliminary Works Estimate the required quantity of SikaGrout -215 for the entire project and also for
daily usage to ensure sufficient material for each use and no unnecessary stoppages
are encountered.

Consumption:
®
1 bag of SikaGrout -215 (25 kg) yields approximately 13.6 litres of mortar (0.0136
m³) with 4.2 liter of water per 25kg bag.

Preparation 1. Remove all dust and debris from the substrate area using compressed air and /
or water jet.
2. Form the feeding ‘mouth’ for pouring. Ensure that the mouth at the top is about
50 mm higher than the highest base level.
3. Separate the pours into 9 m c/c. stagger the grouting sequence to allow for
shrinkage (if the grouting area is bigger than 9m).
4. On the day of application, soak the substrate thoroughly with clean water for a
few hours to obtain a surface saturated dry (SSD) condition. Then remove the
water and ensure that there is no ponding water prior to starting work.

®
Mixing Mix SikaGrout -215 mechanically with water to an even flowing consistency. Water
may be added or reduced slightly depending on the requirement or site conditions.
The mixing shall be kept at the minimum to reduce air entrapment (also do not
exceed 500 rpm).
Mix Designs Flowable Pourable
Water Water
Content Content
Ratio 4.2 ltr / 25kg 4.0 ltr / 25kg

Note:

Use pourable consistency as mixing ratio for base plate grouting.

If depth of grouting exceeds 50 mm or larger grouting areas, 10 mm
washed, clean and graded aggregate may be added to the grout at a ratio of
®
not more than 1.0 : 0.5 (SikaGrout -215 : 10mm aggregate). (This is to
reduce temperature rise, which is common in thick pours).

Application 1. Pour the grout through the “mouth”. Allow the grout to flow to the opposite end.
Always pour the grout from only one side to prevent air entrapment.
2. Place chain rod or steel banding below the base plate to assist in grout
placement and also to keep grout moving in case of any interruption below the
base plate.
3. Ensure that the process is continuous to avoid air entrapment.
4. Pour until the grout is up to the top of the plate. This will force the material to the
plate bottom and achieve a maximum effective bearing area (EBA) between the
grout and the plate.

Curing Cure exposed areas with proper curing method or spray the area with a curing
compound such as Antisol E for at least 3 days before open for trafficable load.
