1.2.1 Installation Preparation

Before installing the FE Software, the following preparations may be required.

To perform the installation efficiently, these preparations should be started one or two weeks before
installation and completed by the installation day. Care must be taken to create billing data because it may
require several days.
(1) Establishment of an installation plan
(2) Research of the current system environment (when upgrading from the current system to FE Software)
(3) Creating the shop logo and billing data (if required)

1.2.2 Before-installation Work

Installation begins with the following work, which includes:

(1) Hardware installation (if necessary)
(2) Before-installation work

9
1.2.3 Installation of Each Device

Outlines of installation work are as follows.

Installation of Each Device

Before-installation Work

Installation of Basic Software

Installation of Optional Applications

After-installation Work

(1) Before-installation Work

The data used in the current system is moved to the FE Software by using the tools such as print size
setting tool, etc. Deletion of the current software can also be executed.
(2) Installation of Basic Software
Install the basic software in each device.
Basic software means the S1 (FRONTIER (SP-3000) Basic Software) for SP, S2 (DICII Basic Software) for
the Imaging Controller, S7 (E-DIC Basic Software) for the second Imaging Controller (E-DIC) and S9
(FMPCII Software) for Frontier Manager Printer Controller (FMPC).
(3) Installation of Optional Application Software
Install the optional application software for the FE.
(4) After-installation Work
Perform the installation of current data and setting of each application.

1.2.4 After-installation Work

After the installation of each device is completed, connect each one and perform the settings for the entire
system. Then, perform the operational checks. If all operational checks are OK, installation work is completed.

10
1.3 Installation Methods

The installation workflow described in Section 1.2 varies depending on the installed operating
systems. In particular, the procedure for installing each device may change significantly depending
on the condition of each device. This section explains how to decide the installation methods for
your current system.

1.3.1 Set-up Conditions for Installation

The set-up conditions for installation (condition of each device) can be classified as follows.

1.3.1.1 Scanner (SP) Conditions

[1] Newly Implemented SP-3000

[2] Upgrading A1 in SP-3000 to S1

[3] Using FE Software for Conventional SP

[1] Newly Implemented SP-3000:

The S1 (SP-3000 Basic Software) of FE Software is pre-installed in the SP-3000. So, “(1) Before-
installation Work” and “(2) Installation of Basic Software” in Section “1.2.3 Installation of Each Device” are
not required.
[2] Upgrading A1 (Ver.1.7/1.8) in SP-3000 to S1:
Installation work is executed according to the flow in “1.2.3 Installation of Each Device”. When installing
S1, follow the screen instructions (click [Yes] to proceed with the installation).
[3] Using FE Software for Conventional SPs (SP1500/2000 or SLP-800SC/1000SE):
A1 and other optional software are used without change although there are version restrictions depending
on the models. Installing of software for supporting conventional SPs is required to connect FE Software to
other devices.

1.3.1.2 DIC Conditions

[1] Newly Implemented DIC

[2] Upgrading C4/C5 to S2

11
[1] Newly Implemented DIC:
If the BIOS, OS and other settings for the DIC are already completed at time of shipment, “Before-
installation Work” in “1.2.3 Installation of Each Device” may not be required. For other PCs, make sure to
perform “1.2.3”. Installation of S2 (DICII Basic Software) and subsequent procedures are required.
[2] Upgrading C4/C5 in DIC Hardware to S2:
To upgrade C4/C5 in the DIC hardware to S2, the DIC hardware settings need to be initialized by using the
Recovery CD, etc. Start the installation work beginning with the OS installation in the DIC hardware. In
addition, appropriate settings such as OS settings are required before installing S2.

In both cases, the DIC hardware settings need to be in the initial state (clean installation is required) for
installing S2. Also, perform the procedures after “Before-installation Work” in both cases.

1.3.1.3 E-DIC (Second DIC) Conditions

E-DIC is used with New Hardware.

E-DIC is used with Current DIC Hardware.

No E-DIC in System

The installation procedures for E-DIC (Second DIC) are almost the same as those for DIC described in
“1.3.1.2 DIC Conditions”. Perform a clean installation of S7 (E-DIC Connection Software).

1.3.1.4 FMPCII Conditions

FMPCII is using New Hardware.

FMPCII is using Current FMPC Hardware.

FMPCII is not used

Perform a clean installation of S9 (FMPCII Software). The installation procedures are almost the same as
those for DICII/E-DICII. When using the current FMPC (FMPCI) hardware, the hardware setting must be set
to the initial state by using the Recovery CD, etc.

12
1.3.2 Installation Patterns

As described in Section “1.3.1 Set-up Conditions for Installation”, the procedures for installing DIC/E-DIC/
FMPC are almost the same. But the work before installation varies depending on the conditions. The following
three types of installation patterns are used.

(1) Pattern 1: [New Installation]

FRONTIER is installed for the first time.

(2) Pattern 2: [Upgrading Current SP-3000]

The current software for FRONTIER 355/375/550/570/590 is upgraded to FE Software.

(3) Pattern 3: [Installing FE Software in Conventional Models]

The C4/C5 software used in the FRONTIER 330/340/350/370 system is upgraded to FE Software.
