I am very grateful to Bayer Pakistan( private) limited for giving me an opportunity

to work for them as an intern for the Supply Chain and Procurement Department. I
would also like to thank Mr. Muhammad Faizanullah Khan, Procurement officer-
Technical Community, who was my supervisor and mentor during the 6 weeks
internship.
Last, but not the least, I am grateful to the Career Development Centre-IBA
Karachi for updating and recommending us Multinational Companies like Bayer
Pakistan for applying for our corporate internships.

The Bayer Group is managed as a life science company with three divisions –
Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Health and Crop Science – and the Animal Health business
unit, which are also our reporting segments. The corporate functions, Business Services
and the service company Currenta support the operational business. In 2018, the Bayer
Group comprised 420 consolidated companies in 90 countries throughout the world.  

The Pharmaceuticals  division focuses on prescription

products, especially for cardiology and women’s
healthcare, and on specialty therapeutics in the areas of
oncology, hematology and ophthalmology. The division
also comprises the radiology business, which markets
diagnostic imaging equipment together with the necessary
contrast agents.

The Consumer Health  division markets mainly
nonprescription (OTC = over-the-counter) products in the
dermatology, nutritional supplement, analgesic, digestive
health, cold, allergy, sinus and flu, foot care and sun
protection categories.

The Crop Science  division is a world-leading agriculture
enterprise with businesses in seeds, crop protection and
nonagricultural pest control. The Crop Protection / Seeds
operating unit markets a broad portfolio of high-value seeds
and innovative pest management solutions, while at the same
time providing extensive customer service for sustainable
agriculture. The Environmental Science operating unit

nonagricultural applications, such as vector and pest control and forestry.

The Animal Health  business unit ranks among the leading
international innovators in its field. It develops and markets
products and solutions for the prevention and treatment of
diseases in companion and farm animals.

 MY TASKS

As an intern, my tasks were:

 Dealing with emergencies at the factories
 Floating Request for quotations(RFQs) from the vendors
 Inviting local as well as international vendors to Bayer’s SAP Ariba tool and contacting
them to accept our invitations as soon as they can
 Getting quotations approved by the Head of the Quality Control and Quality Control
officers.
 Making purchase orders
 Negotiating prices with the vendors and requesting them to reduce the prices
Throughout the 6 weeks internship, my supervisor was Sir Muhammad Faizanullah Khan, who
was the Procurement officer- Technical Community for Bayer Pakistan(private) limited.

 MY EXPERIENCE

The 6 weeks experience at Bayer has helped me groom myself and polish my skills, not only
related to the Corporate sector, but also skills such as interpersonal, teamwork and public
speaking. There were sessions held every week, which helped us interact with the CFO, Head of
HR and the Managing Director of Bayer Pakistan.
The people at Bayer were great, friendly and always ready to help. I remember interacting with
people from all departments. Their HR is helpful and always made sure that we were
comfortable. The MD also took rounds and made it a point to interact with every single person.
The environment was super inclusive for every kind of employee.
My supervisor, Sir Muhammad Faizanullah Khan was always willing to teach me how to float
Request for quotations (RFQs), make purchase orders, invite vendors to Bayer’s Sap Ariba tool,
getting quotations approved by the heads of Quality control department and negotiate with
vendors.
Overall, the internship experience was great, very informative and enjoyable.

 CONCLUSION

I can honestly say that my time spent interning at Bayer Pakistan resulted in one of the best
summers of my life.  Not only did I gain practical skills but I also had the opportunity to meet
many fantastic people. The atmosphere at the Korangi office was always welcoming which made
me feel right at home. Additionally, I felt like I was able to contribute to the company by
assisting and working on projects throughout the summer. Not only in the office, but my
supervisor also took me to the SITE area (Bayer’s factory) to show me how field work is done.

Overall, my internship at Bayer Pakistan has been a success. I was able to gain practical skills,
work in a fantastic environment, and make connections that will last a lifetime. I could not be
more thankful to Bayer Pakistan for providing me with this opportunity.
