Aim of the unit
The Overall aim of this unit is to enable the student to display knowledge on how clinical
diagnosis of common conditions can be made utilizing her previous courses knowledge.
Specific objective
By the end of this unit the student will be able to:
 Review history taking. And clinical manifestation of disease.
 Do physical examinations head to toe including chest and heart auscultation.
 Do palpation of abdominal organs and be able to recognize the significance of the
findings.
 Read laboratory test and apply the finding to the clinical examination.
 Special test and their meaning.
 Use of sneller chart, otoscope and stethoscope to make diagnosis.
Contents:
 Review of history taking, taking vital signs, and observation, palpation and auscultation.
 Physical examination from head to toe and its significance.
 Palpation of the various organs of the body and significance of the finding.
 Auscultation of heart and lungs and significance of the finding.
 ENT examination and significance of the findings.
 Eye examination and significance of the findings.
 Gynaecological examination and its significance.
 Breast examination.
 Using the diagnostic flow chart to make a clinical diagnosis.

Unit 1: Blood Diseases--- Share Lab( hemotology)


Aims of the course
The overall aim of this course is to enable the learner to describe the causes, clinical
manifestations, and management of the major disorders of the blood.
Course objectives
By the end of this course the learner will be able to:
 Describe the causes, clinical manifestations, and management of the major disorders of
the blood.
 Develop skills in history taking from patient with blood diseases.
 Rrecognize signs and symptoms of anemia’s.
 Explain investigations necessary to diagnose type of blood disease
 Manage the patient suffering from blood diseases.
 Educate the individual, family and community in the prevention of some type of blood
diseases.

 Review of anatomy and physiology of blood and the process of blood formation and
coagulation .
 History taking from patient suffering from blood diseases.
 Common investigation for the diagnosis of blood diseases:
o Blood tests.
o Bone marrow
o Stool test
o Urine tests
o Ultrasound and C.T.scan.
 Classification of anaemia’s.
o Anaemia due to blood loss.
o Anaemia’s due to blood disctruction
o Anaemia due to deficiencies.
o Anaemia due aplasia. Of bone marrow
 Blood coagulation defect’s
 Haemophilia.
 Platelets formation defect’s
 Agranulocytosis.
 Hodgking lymphoma.
 Non Hodgkin lymphoma.
 Leukaemias.
 Signs and symptoms, diagnosis and management of patients suffering from blood
diseases:
 Blood transfusion – care of the patient receiving blood transfusion

Unit 2: Diseases of the cardiovascular system


Aim of the unit
The Overall aim of this unit is to enable the student to describe the causes, predisponsing factors,
clinical manifestations, management, rehabilitation and preventive measures of cardiovascular
vascular diseases.

Unit Objectives
By the end of this unit the student will be able to::
 Describe in details the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular vascular system and
respiratory system
 Describe and be able to recognize the clinical manifestations of the patient suffering from
cardiovascular vascular diseases.
 Describe the planning and giving of effective care and rehabilitation to patient suffering
from cardiovascular diseases.

 Review of anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular-vascular system
 Review of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system.
 Review of the physiology of pulse and blood pressure.

o Irregular heart beat.

 Special investigations to facilitate the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases.

o Synous arrhythmia.

 Hypertention: types, predisposing factors, pathology, manifestation, manage and
prevention
 Coronary artery disease, their manifestations, management as well as rehabilitation and
