In Lebanon, there were two videos, the first one of the diving POSTS IN OTHER LANGUAGES

In this case, the best care would be the following: Put the
victim in a drug induced coma for most of the time. Start with
the major things like checking the frontal bone (forehead) to
ensure the brain is safe, maintain vascular supply to tissues,
deal with the airway (victim would need a tracheotomy), try
to save his vision and go from there. After that, try bone
fusions/pinnings to repair bones and muscle re-attachments
to repair muscles. Skin and soft tissues would be dealt with
last. There would surely be a hell of a scar afterward.
In this case, all the surgeons could do was to stitch up the

deep and severe wounds in his face. Although some clinicians
on the Net say that a good ENT could patch this kid up, this

poor guy could not be saved. All the surgeons were able to do
was keep him alive in the ICU for two days before he died.
The death was due to spinal fracture and in particular severe
internal bleeding in the brain.

An interesting sketch of the man's wound taken from the Net. Through
done in a stereotypical deliberately amateurish manner, there is
something creepy about this sketch.
After this accident, the city put up a fence at this spot, but
reportedly young males soon bent the fence so they could
keep diving and now they get a long running start so they can
clear both the fence and the slab in the water below. Crazy!
However, another report out of Lebanon says that police

patrol the location now and don't allow any diving.
Before this accident, there were a number of other horrible

diving accidents in this area, all involving teenage boys and
young men.
There are reports linking to a different Web video that

supposedly proves that this video is fake. The video shows
the same hospital footage. In the other video, which appeared

on the Net around the same time this one did (June 1, 2009)
the hospital footage is said to be of a failed 9mm gun suicide.
However, a 9mm cannot do that kind of damage to your face.
Furthermore, in a longer video version of the ER scene, the

two doctors are discussing in Lebanese Arabic how the young
man landed "on a rock" when he jumped into the water. This
dialogue would not exist in a gun suicide video. Unfortunately,
I deleted this video from my drive.

There are claims that instead of a 9mm failed suicide, this is a

shotgun failed suicide. However, there are many photos of
shotgun suicides on the Web, for instance, at Rotten.com.
Shotgun failed suicides do not neatly clove one's face in two
like this.
What are the chances that a video of a failed shotgun suicide

by a young man occurred and was filmed in Lebanon around
the same time of this accident?
Another report says that the hospital footage is from a guy in

Saudi Arabia who got hit in the face with an ax. That would
certainly account for the injury and the Arabic speaking
hospital staff. However, Saudis do not speak Lebanese Arabic;
they speak a completely different Arabic language that is
quite distinctive. Further, female staff in a Saudi hospital
would be wearing more than a mere hijab I think.
There are reports that this took place in other places such as

Accra, Israel, and Brazil. Accra is a port, it does have many

Arabs who speak an Arabic dialect very similar to Lebanese
Arabic, and it has a promenade like in Beirut. In Brazil, people
would not be speaking Arabic and the female hospital staff
would not be wearing hijabs.
Sources in Lebanon who were there at the promenade and

witnessed the dive accident say the word on the street in
Lebanon is that the second half was shot in the hospital and is
footage of aftermath of the diving accident.
Many have questioned the nature of the boy's wound. It does

not seem possible to hit a concrete slab and split your face
vertically like that. However, if you look at the dive footage,
there is steel casing around the concrete slab that he hits.
The concrete slab has worn away, and the steel casing is
exposed. The steel casing runs parallel to the shoreline. Even
then, hitting the steel casing would seem to be a horizontal
hit that would not cause this injury.
But look at the way the boy is flailing wildly in the air. In his
dive, he is twisting and turning like the wind. With such a
flailing dive, and probably curving to try to avoid the
concrete, it's possible for him to turn the 90 degrees he needs
to hit the sharp edge of the steel casing vertically instead of
horizontally, which would result in the injury we see later.
A very interesting capture from the diving video at the moment of

impact appears to show that in fact the diver did hit the very sharp
eroded steel edge of the fishing platform. If he was twisted around so
that his face hit the edge vertically instead of horizontally, he could

have indeed ended up with the split face wound seen later in video.
Another theory is that the hospital footage is not real - it's

faked using special effects. Looking at the cheap quality of the
video and the fact that faking something like this is the
terrain of motion picture studios with huge budgets, it is clear
that the guy in the hospital is not "some rubber thing."
One problem with the video is that the hospital guy is quite
pale, while the jumper is a typical brown-skinned Arab.
People say this means they are two different people.
However, it could be the same kid in the hospital if the diver
lost a lot of blood.
Another suggestion, perhaps not as odd as it sounds, is that

the boy is already dead on the ER table. The body can make a
few involuntary movements after death - there are death
rattles - and the breathing could have been artificially forced
by the tube. But why intubate a dead man? And if you look
closely, you can see that his tongue is moving, and his chest
is going up and down. He appears to be gasping for breath. A
funeral director on the Web felt that he was still very much
alive.
Until can sort everything out, this video will remain

mysterious.
There is something really creepy about this video that I can't

quite put a finger on.
From the very amateurish trilingual warning at the beginning

-Arabic, French and English - (the movie was made by a
Moroccan man named "M.M. of Casablanca, Morocco" who
came to my site and commented but left no further details) to
the horrible screams after he hits, to the blood-red ocean
spreading in a large area around the 20-30 people gathered
in the water to help him, to the absolutely terrifying scene in
the hospital where the poor kid, incredibly, has a face split
clear in two - the horror starts from second one and keeps
building till the end.

A copy of the amateurish text at the beginning of the video, suggesting

once again that the entire video, including the uncertain footage at the
end, was made in Lebanon.
The labored, terrified breathing of the victim combined with

what appears to be a look of horror on what's left of his face
is something that really stays with you.
Throughout the video, there is weird, cheesy, hard to describe

instrumental background music that for some strange reason
that adds to the fear. This music is actually the soundtrack to
a medical show on US TV - either from ER or Chicago Hope.
The amateurish cellphone footage that jumps around jerkily

also somehow makes the video frightening.
Possibly the frightening thing about this video's

amateurishness is that it makes it seem so real (i.e. - it's not
just a Hollywood movie!)
I was traumatized for several days after watching this thing,

and I've watched a lot of nasty stuff.

Anon, it's not fake. The diving scene is real and he didn't die
until 2 days later. The hospital scene is real footage too. We just
don't know if the two scenes are of the same guy, that's all. The
hospital scene may be a failed shotgun suicide.

I think his face is too neatly cloven asunder for this to be

inflicted by shotgun. Look for some shotgun-suicide pictures on
rotten.com, you'll see the difference. For example, the famous
motorcycle.jpg picture is most likely a shotgun suicide, as
claimed by the rotten.com staff in their FAQ.

It seems to be the same incident. My problem is that I have

seen the video clip named failed shotgun suicide and it is dated
June 1, 2009 for it's internet posting. If the posting date is
correct and so is your timeline of the accident occurring the
second week of June 09 then there is a major conflict with the

Yes, I am aware of the discrepancy in the dates of the incidents

and the videos and I don't know what to say about it. The date
of the second week of June could well be in error. Perhaps it
was the first week of June. However, they are speaking
Lebanese Arabic in the "shotgun suicide" video, right? How
many failed shotgun suicides were filmed in Lebanon right
around the same time as the diving accident? That seems kind
of dubious right there.
The only thing we can say is that some things about this video
don't make sense, and while the guy in the hospital suffered a
real injury, it's not known if that injury was a failed gun suicide
or a diving accident.
Like with so many things in life, the truth about this video may
just remain somewhat mysterious. Once you get to be my age,
you realize that's how it is with tons of stuff in life. You never
really totally figure out what really happened.

video...i saw it on facebook someone sent it to me and since
then ive been having nightmares like legit nightmares about
this video...ive must of watched this over 35 times and its just

attempted to shoot himself in the head with bird shot under the
chin the gun shot did not kill him but he looked alot like this
guy when he himself acutually answered the door this is true it

This is why doing stunts like these scares the crap out of me.
You never know what could go wrong when you're not
supposed to be doing something in the first place.
Also, it's possible that the boy was able to breathe on his own
without a ventilator and that he was intubated immediately to
prevent him from aspirating blood. I've had to do it from time
to time (although I am in a veterinary hospital). This could be
prior to actual anesthesia when he would indeed require a
supply of oxygen and a gaseous anesthetic.

He was also probably in severe shock in both videos and may

not have been able to comprehend what was happening
(especially if his frontal lobe was in rough shape... I didn't feel
like watching again to check) or to feel much of anything.
As for it being a gun shot wound, I doubt it very much. My

boyfriend is a weapons instructor for the military and as such
shows a slide show of what can happen if you're an idiot with
your weapon. At the very least, the photos he shows are nothing
like this although they are still equally gory and caused by a
multitude of weapons. But not being an expert, I cannot
definitively say one way or another.
This poor boy... let us hope that his family's terrible misfortune
prevents others from suffering a similar fate.
PS. Grow up people. A child is dead and all you can think to do
is crack jokes? What sad lives you must lead. It's people like
you that deserve to suffer tragedies like this, but taking the high
road, I hope everyone stays safe. There's too much tragedy
already in our world.

This is a terrible accident, I have done many things in my life

that could have ended in the same manner -but I was LUCKY.
Those who can't handle the truth after seeing something such
as this try to slough it off as a fake -mostly because they've seen
to much "fake" stuff on TV and in the movies, or just don't

Thank you very much for the complete information you give on

I had seen this video without much warnings on a french Blog,

and I could not stop thinking of it since.
So I decided to make some searches to find some additionnal

information in order to help me make some kind of mourning
for this boy and for my phychology.
I did not have the strength to watch the video again, but from
the screenshots you provide, the warning are in my opinions far
from being enough. There should be a detailed description of
the content of the video, the fact that the boy died should be
mentionned, and the fact that many people were shocked for a
few days or weeks after watching the video should be
mentionned directly in the video, as you did at the beginning of
your article.
Although, I understand you cannot do much about this.
Anyway, thank you very much for your investigation work, I

think it will help many people who has watched the misfortune
of the boy inadvertly, just like me.

What calmed me down a little was the fact that this kid in the
hospital was essentially already dead. He may have been

size off a ledge with a rope tied around his feet so his face hit

would explain the lack of spine protection by the fact that this
victim might have been carried by foot by his relatives to the
hospital. Its a short walk and maybe faster then waiting for an
ambulance. Those people probably didnt have the number of
the hospital and did not know about spine injurie, and were
maybe in a state of panic. Bottom line is, First aid staff here
normally knows about spine stabilisation procedures and have
the necessary equipment for treating people in heavy car
accidents.

Holy shit... one of the most disturbing things i have ever seen in
my life. The first video of him diving and hitting the concrete
was just completely terrifying. And then the Hospital scene
which got me sick to my stomach. And Seriously how can
people make fun of this and be so immature, plus the arguing

Hello people,
I've watched the video. I feel sorry for both of them and for
thier families. I just wanted to point out that the the person in
the first part of the video (the jumping part) in NOT the same
person in the hospital part of the video. As you can see the guy
in the hospital is only hit in the face. He was an axe in his face.
Happened in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in a really screwed up
nieghborhood (as you may say ... the projects?).
I saw the video a while ago (notice the arabic accent in the
video, the freaking nurse was filming this :/) and at least you
were kind enough to put a warning at the begining.

up on the back of my neck when he takes that 2nd dive & he
misses his footing. I can't even begin to imagine the pain,

event. For one, the diving guy may have died of oxygen
deprivation as he lied upside-down on the water long enough to

Hi Robert, this is the first time I'm writing. I'd like to comment
on your own comment regarding women, I quite found it
interesting that you pointed out differences between the way
men respond and the way women right. Yes, I find it amusing, I
chuckled, but, alas, I don't agree with your point. I assure you
that I am 100% woman, I never sit back and read without
commenting IF my comment is somewhat original and/or has
some sort of role in the discussion (sure enough I'd rather say

can do, say or write anything in any way a man can - oh and I
can do that on heels!! :)
That's it though, I guess women prefer to read and understand,
and comment when needed, we are less prone to empty
comments I'd say (although I don't want to generalize too much
here!).
Regarding this incident - I myself am an islander, the sea is my

natural habitat and I've always had this passion for jumping
and the little big dangers of life, but in my search for danger I
am always somewhat prudent! As I watched this video in my
university lab together with my mates, I swear, we all.....ugh!
Not even the goriest parts of scientific research had us react
that way.
Thanks for putting it, I hope it will teach other youths to be
more prudent, especially on the streets!

Hi Robert, sorry to write three posts consecutively but I am

analysing the video and I noticed one thing that maybe has
gone unnoticed. This boy is clearly jumping into the water with
a three-quarters trousers, yet when he is floating he seems to be
wearing full-length jeans. It's not possible that the trousers
have slipped downwards upon impact as in that case they
would not be covering the boy's bottom - so I'm beginning to
doubt that the boy that is floating and the boy that actually
jumped is the same boy - in fact for a moment the person
filming diverts the shot.
Anyone noticed this?

No Sue, no one has noticed that before. But I received a

comment from the guy who made the video from Morocco, and
I think the video is genuine. Also I received comments from
Lebanese who say that this really happened. They live in Beirut
and it was in the local media for a while. Now, whether the guy
in the ER is the same as the guy who jumped is another matter
altogether, one that is not completely settled.

From seing this vid i got curious about to know if the boy
survived this clearly fatal jump. but many says he's dead but i
really do want proofs, i really felt bad for this kid and wannit to
find out what happends afterwards.
I saw the vid on facebook first, then took my time on looking

for other websides in the internet and found this. But if you
could could you show me the proof so i wont be so nervous for
the kid...

I dont think its all real... not trying to be disrespectful, but

there are some weird things about the video, while most people
have said other things that make sense but check out the 34
second mark to the 38. He is heading in one direction into the
water, then all of the sudden the "clip" stops. Also note how the
waves are splashing outwards. then he is out about 8 feet over
in a direction that he would not have gone. WITH no waves or
any thing like that around him. And IF he were to have drifted
over there would have been way more blood than that!
....sorry but i dont believe it. too many things that dont line up.
