CHALLENGES IN MY QUEST FOR EDUCATION

I live in an extended family where my grandmother stays with us. In 2011, my grandmother had a knee
surgery that went wrong. The medication also caused kidney damage, which made her a dialysis patient.
The incident caused a lot of mental strain to the entire family, which further impacted my first-year
exams, which were at the same time as the incident happened. Also, we had to share responsibilities in
the house. My mother had to do all household chores and took care of my grandmother while I took her
for dialysis at the hospital, stayed with her during the treatment, and took her back home.

In my third year, I was involved in an accident, which resulted in a cut through my frontal muscles. The
doctor instructed me to rest completely, but I could not since I had to revise for exams that were some
months away. The surgery caused other complications that made me unable to concentrate completely.

Though I have not attained the 3.0 GPA, I believe I have given my studies my all under the
circumstances. Joining university will provide me with the opportunity to see how far I can go without
the limitations I have had in my life so far. I believe that this will be the first step in my life to stretch my
mind and myself to see the possibilities that life can offer.
