3. (a) Calculate the pH of a 0.20M CH3COOH solution


(b) What is the pH of a solution containing both 0.20 M CH 3COOH and 0.3 M CH3COONa? The Ka of

4. A student prepared a 0.10 M solution of formic acid (HCHO 2) and measured its pH using pH meter. The pH
at 25oC was found to be 2.38
(a) Calculate Ka for formic acid at this temperature

7. The solubility of CO2 in pure water at 25oC and 0.1atm pressure is 0.0037M. the common practice is to

lactic aicd, Ka = 1.4 x 10-4 . Answer: 3.77

13. How many moles of NH4Cl must be added to 2.0 L 0.10 M NH3 to form a buffer whose pH is 9.00? (Assume
that the addition of NH4Cl does not change the volume of the solution). The Ka of NH3 is 5.6 x 10-10
Answer: 0.36 mol

14. A buffer is made by adding 0.300 mol HC2H3O2 and 0.300 mol NaC2H3O2 to enough water to make 1.00 L of
solution. The pH of the buffer is 4.74. the Ka of HC 2H3O2 is 1.8 x 10-5
(a) Calculate the pH of this solution after 0.020 mol of NaOH is added
(b) For comparison, calculate the pH that would result if 0.0200 mol of NaOH was added to 1.00 L of pure
