Direction: Solve the following using the six (6) steps of hypothesis testing.

1) Twenty randomly selected families in four major cities in Metro Manila are asked
to estimate a monthly transportation cost. Use the data obtained below to test
whether there is a significant difference in monthly transportation costs for
families living in these cities using 1% level of significance.

Quezon City Manila City Caloocan City Valenzuela City

1) Hypothesis: Ho : μQC = μMC = μCC = μVC Ha : μQC ≠ μMC ≠

μCC ≠ μVC

2) Level of Significance: α = 1% or 0.01

3) Statistical Test: Test : Non-directional Tail – test : Two tailed test

Df (num) : k-1 : 4-1=3 Df (denom) : N-k : 16-4=12
Tabular Value : ± 5.95

Decision: Interpretation:
Since the identified tabular value Failure to accept the null hypothesis
is ± 5.95. Based from the area, the means that there is a significant
decision is to reject the null difference in the monthly
hypothesis since the computed transportation cost of twenty (20)
value of ±14.08 is greater than randomly selected families in four
