March 20 April 30
~1,000 new COVID hospitalizations
per day is still too high!
We must now further
target our efforts
to reduce the new cases.
We need
more specific information
from hospitals on new cases.

Schools

We adopted
one statewide policy for our schools.
Schools

To mitigate the impact of COVID-19,

the State closed all schools by March 18
and waived the 180-day requirement.
Schools

School districts had to develop:

• Distance learning plans
• Meal delivery service
• Child care options for essential employees
Schools

Colleges and universities

were also moved to distance learning
beginning March 19 and
campuses were closed except
for those in need of housing.

STAY HOME. STOP THE SPREAD. SAVE LIVES.

Schools
Schools have high density and transportation issues
and there is greater risk of spread unless
protective measures are fully in place.
• 700 public school districts with 4,800 schools,
and 2.59 million students
• 1,800 private schools with 400,000 students
• 89 SUNY/CUNY campuses with 700,000 students
• Over 100 private colleges with 500,000 students
• Total K-12 and College: 4.2 million students
Schools

We must
protect our children,
students and educators.
Schools

Given the current situation,

K-12 schools and college facilities will
remain closed for the rest of the academic year
and will continue to provide distance learning
for the remainder of the academic year.
Schools

Decision on summer school programming

will be announced end of May.
• Continuation of meal programs
• Continuation of child care services for
essential employees
State Will Approve Plans to Reopen Schools & Colleges

To reimagine schools, these plans should consider:

• How can schools monitor the spread of COVID-19?
• How do we instill parent confidence and reinforce student safety?
• When, and how, will extra-curricular activities reopen?
• Do protocols for special student populations change?
• On college campuses, how will housing, meals, and gatherings work?
• What steps need to be taken to ensure student mental health?
• How can colleges best work together to share services and offer
opportunities across public and private systems?
• Would any alternative academic calendars work?

STAY HOME. STOP THE SPREAD. SAVE LIVES.
