La Finta Giardiniera Listening 2/26

The Salzburg 2006 production of La Finta Giardiniera was creative to say the least. The

modern re-imagining of this early Mozart opera set in a German Hope Depot garden center was

both funny and creative. As someone who loves modern settings of operas, this one was

particularly enjoyable, and I especially enjoyed the characters who were in disguise dressing in

period costumes while everyone else in the Podesta’s “estate” was dressed in Home Depot vests.

The plastic bag over Violante’s wig was genius, as was the giant flower costumes, it was a very

surreal and entertaining setting of La Finta Giardiniera.
