Film Synopsis

This film is a rich visual journey through time that alludes to a historic human
injustice of government and big business that has been lost in the shifting sands of
marketing and intellectual philosophy, which is revealed in the film’s subtle allusion
and imagery that creates a compelling foreshadowing of what lies ahead.
Long Synopsis

The film explores the relationship between human rights and criminal Justice in
parallel to Politics and government, it charts the historical event of petrol where a
compound called tetraethyl lead which made engines more efficient, which is
produced by reacting chloromethane with a sodium–lead alloy; a liquid gas
nicknamed “loony gas” by the works at GM and other plants that was found to cause
people to go mad and commit crime.

The brilliant Chief chemist of New York's Toxicology Department Alexander Gettler
studied the rapidly accumulating dead bodies of standard oil workers who handled
the lead compound discovered how dangerous it was, and so lead was banned in
many US states, however despite the extreme danger of this new compound, and
during the efficiency era and corrupt politics of 1920, powerful industry lobbied
against the ban on leaded petrol and re-introduced it to petrol worldwide
It is now becoming apparent that there is a direct link between crime and leaded
petrol. With lead petrol now banned and crime plummeting the governments today
are rapidly moving away from forensic science, avoiding any standardisation and a
refusal to admit to past mistakes.

This regression in crime investigation in parallel to human rights leads one to the
hypothesis that a new cheaper form of control is inevitable and the form it will take is
predictable.

The short film examines the illusion of the Progessive and Efficiency era that led to a
new theoretical perspective ‘agnotology’ and our inability to listen and prepare for the
inevitable that lies ahead. The film creates a compelling argument that we are floating
away from reality like an aging beast.
