Nothing New

By Cameron Colgrave
CUT IN:

1 EXT – FRONT OF HOUSE – MIDDAY

Detectives car pulls up to the front of the house and two

detectives get out and walk down an alley to the back garden
of the house where the crime has taken place.

DT 1
You. Get a statement from the homeowner. And
see what they have to say about this. I’ll go
and have a look round the garden

DT2
Right you are.

DT 2 heads into the house while DT 1 heads over to the body.

DT 1 begins looking over the body identifying injury’s and a
profile for the victim.

Several minutes later DT 2 come out of the house and arriving

next to the body pulls out a notepad and reads off what the
homeowner has to say.

DT 1
So, what did you find out?

DT 2
Nothing new. Just as they reported on the call.

DT 1
What do you mean? Nothing new?

DT 2
Well, it’s like I said. She was in the front
room watching TV. Then, all of a sudden she
heard a crack.

DT 1
A crack

DT 2
Yeah… a crack which was followed by a scream.
The scream came from the back garden.

DT 1
Then what did she do?

DT 2
She came out into the garden to see the boy
lying on the ground.

DT 1
Did she know he was dead?

DT 2
Yeah. She’s shook up by this. That’s when she
called 999. She’s been inside ever since, she’s
in a right state. So, what have we got?

Dt 1
It looks like the body is a young boy. I reckon
he’s about 14-16 years old. I’d say he’s
roughly 5foot 10inches.

DT 2
Well. How do you think this happened?

DT 1
I’m not sure. My guess is he was just messing
around.

As DT 1 rambles on about the cause of death DT 2 begins

analysing the situation. DT 1 voice fades out as DT 2 focuses
on the body. They notice watches, scratch marks, expensive
shoes, expensive clothing. They link all of these objects they
see to an article they have read on county lines. Now working
out what direction the boy has come from. They link the
scratches on the boy to the broken tree branch by the fence.
Varnish on the boy’s hands and shoes linking to drying fence
at the end of the garden. This panic of a rush and loss of
caution the boy must have been running from something or
someone. Probably someone on the wrong side of the law as they
have not bothered to stick around. Now that DT 2 has all of
this information they link it all together in a recreation of
the events.

DT 2
Step back!

DT 1
What?!

An almost ghost of the boy can be scene vaulting the fence and
falling onto the pole into the ground. They snap and all the
information links together.

DT 2
An escape.

DT 1
What?

DT 2
An escape. The boy was running from something.
Or someone. Watch. Shoes. Cap. All expensive
items and brands. Too expensive for someone of
this age.

DT 2 reaches into the boy’s jacket and pulls out a wad of

cash. And puts it into an evidence bag.

DT 2
Just as I thought. Cash. A lot of it. Something
a teenage may not be able to account for.

DT 1
Right. I want forensics here, you bagged up the
evidence and I want a detailed itinerary of all
his items of clothing. I will interview the
homeowner further whilst you wait for the
coroner and I will take the evidence back to
the station.

DT 2 kneels down next to the body as DT 1 walks off towards

the alley. She notices something below his earlobe. This
symbol cuts out to begin the opening sequence.
