Subject: ENGLISH LEVEL III
Title: Alternative means of transport for an intercultural world
Objective: Learn about non-common means of transport to appreciate
how they have changed at all levels different cities of the Latin American
and the Anglophone world.

Description: Building on the YouTube clip “Cycle Rickshaws Left Behind”

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXbMNFnAgQM), which portrays one of the
oldest modes of travel in India as part of its culture, learn about the
experience of non-common transportation in a big city of the
Anglophone world. Then, compare it with that of other cities (for touristic
and recreational purposes also), including one from Latin America. In
turn, reflect on how alternative (oftentimes cheap) means of transport
have changed and shaped not only what we understand by urban
transportation but also the overall culture of big cities.
 

Stage 1:
1. View the above mentioned YouTube clip and look up others on
these four transportation means and their cities: beer bike
(Amsterdam, Netherlands), bicitaxi (Bogotá, Colombia) and
mototaxi (Antigua, Guatemala), bicycle (Los Angeles).
2. Choose one Latin American city that you would like to explore from
the above two (you can pick another example of Latin American
city and transport).
3. Investigate and examine the different means of transportation in
your city of choosing. You must use different sources of
information such as internet, books, movies, and people who live
in/have visited the city. At this point, you should start taking
systematic notes of the information gathered.
4. Identify three key aspects of the impact that transportation has
had in transforming the city at environmental and mobility
aspects.
 
Products Stage 1:
a)      A blog article: drawing on the information gathered, write a
500-word article describing the transformations suffered at all
levels by the city of your choosing as a result transportation.
The text should have the following structure and develop at least
the following three themes:
✓      Title
✓      Introduction: What are you going to do?
✓      First paragraph: Describe a cultural feature of
urban transportation of the city you chose and identify
three key aspects of the impact.
✓      Second paragraph: Describe and contrast another
cultural feature of urban transportation.
✓      Third paragraph: Describe and contrast another
cultural feature of urban transportation.
✓       Conclusion: Brief summary of the content of the
article.
b)      Presentation: Prepare a Power Point presentation reporting the
elements of your blog entry.  Talk about what you found and the
most interesting facts gotten.

Título: medios alternativos de transporte para un mundial intercultural

Objetivo: Aprenda sobre medios de transporte no comunes para apreciar cómo han cambiado
en todos los niveles diferentes ciudades de la América Latina y el mundo anglofono.

Descripción: construyendo en el clip de YouTube "Cycle rickshaws dejado atrás"

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXbMNFnAgQM), que retrata uno de los más antiguos
modos de viajar en la India como parte de su cultura, aprender sobre la experiencia de
transporte no común en una gran ciudad del mundo anglofono. Luego, Compárelo con el de
otras ciudades (para fines turísticos y recreativos también), incluyendo una de Latinoamérica. A
su vez, reflexionar sobre cómo los medios de transporte alternativos (a menudo baratos) han
cambiado y formado no sólo lo que entendemos por el transporte urbano, sino también la
cultura general de las grandes ciudades.  

Etapa

1. ver el clip de YouTube arriba mencionado y buscar a otros en estos cuatro medios de
transporte y sus ciudades: bicicleta de cerveza (Amsterdam, Holanda), Bicitaxi (Bogotá,
Colombia) y mototaxi (antigua, Guatemala), bicicleta (los Ángeles).

2. Elija una ciudad latinoamericana que le gustaría explorar desde los dos anteriores
(puede elegir otro ejemplo de la ciudad latinoamericana y el transporte).

3. Investigue y examine los diferentes medios de transporte en su ciudad de elección.

Usted debe utilizar diferentes fuentes de información como Internet, libros, películas, y
personas que viven en/han visitado la ciudad. En este punto, usted debe comenzar a tomar
notas sistemáticas de la información recopilada.

4. Identificar tres aspectos clave del impacto que el transporte ha tenido en la

transformación de la ciudad en aspectos medioambientales y de movilidad.  

Productos etapa 1
a) un artículo de blog: basándose en la información recopilada, escriba un artículo de 500
palabras describiendo las transformaciones sufridas en todos los niveles por la ciudad de
su elección como resultado de transporte.
El texto debe tener la siguiente estructura y desarrollar al menos los siguientes tres temas:

✓ título
✓ Introducción: ¿Qué vas a hacer?
✓ Primer párrafo: Describa una característica cultural del transporte urbano de la ciudad
que eligió e identifique tres aspectos clave del impacto.
✓ Segundo párrafo: describir y contrastar otra característica cultural del transporte urbano.
✓ Tercer párrafo: describir y contrastar otra característica cultural del transporte urbano.
✓ CONCLUSIÓN: breve resumen del contenido del artículo. b) presentación: Prepare una

sobre lo que encontraste y los hechos más interesantes conseguidos.
