SCHOOL UNIFORMS

The debate based on the topic of school uniforms is becoming more and more
popular nowadays . Whereas many people think that uniforms represent a symbol
of the school a child is learning at, there are also people who think that uniforms
may limit the expression of the personality of a pupil.

On the one hand, school uniforms are a form of representation of a school. By

wearing them, pupils show that they are a part from it. For example, while being in
a crowd it is way easier to recognize a group from a school if they wear uniforms.
Moving on, the uniforms increases the sense of community in a school. It can be
used as a tool to hold the school’s students united and to strengthen their
relationships.

On the other hand, it is immoral to obligate a student to wear something that he/she
basically dislikes or feels that it does not represents him/her. For example, in a
democratic country such as Romania, it is a deviation from the rules. Moving on, a
second strong argument that sustains the idea of not wearing school uniforms is a
economical one common in many cases. Many parents can not afford to keep their
children in school. They can barely cope with the system’s rules and this would be
a great loss in their economy and in the country’s educational statistics. Many
children will have to abandon school and to follow other works that do not require
money that have to be paid.

To conclude, I strongly believe that school uniforms are not the only symbol of a
school and they can be very easily replaced by other signs that support the
membership a child has at a school.
