PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

Time: Three Hours} {Maximum Marks: 70

Note: The question paper is divided into two sections- Section A and Section B. Section A consists of
short answer type question, while section B consists of long answer type questions. The examinee is
required to follow the instructions given in each Section carefully.

Section – A

(Short Answer Type Questions)

Note: Attempt any FIVE questions from the following EIGHT questions and each question carries 5
marks.

I. “First plan your work, and then work your plan” Explain the piece of advice given to the
department of production planning & control. Describe fully the major functions involved in
production planning and control?

II. What are the objectives of stores management? Explain the requirements for the efficient
management of stores?

III. Explain the concept of material handling and also discuss the various material handling
equipments?

IV. What do you mean by “just in time” analysis? State the relevance of JIT analysis to TQM (total
quality management)?

V. What to you understand by productivity? Describe the various techniques of measuring

productivity?

VI. What do you understand by method study? How you would relate it to the work study?

VII. What are the various types of manufacturing systems? Explain it with most suitable examples.
VIII. What do you mean by purchasing? Discuss the process in detail?

(Long Answer Type Questions)

Note: Attempt all questions. Each question carries 15 marks.

2. What do you mean by Inventory management? Discuss the main objectives of Inventory control and
cost associated with it?

What do you mean by break down maintenance? State its nature and disadvantage? You as a
maintenance manager suggest the suitable planned maintenance system along with suitable assumptions.

3. Explain product and process layout in detail with its advantages and disadvantages?

Total Quality Management focuses on “satisfying the customer first, last & always “Explain this
statement with the help of six sigma models.

4. What is the importance of quality control in the organization? Discuss the role of statistical quality
control when a product has ultimately to pass through inspection?

OR

As a project manager of a large petro-chemical refinery how will you select the appropriate location for
the plant? Discuss the various factors that can affect your decision?
