Construction
This is an overview of the procedure on the construction of the Rainwater
Filtration System.
A 55-gallon water barrel will be used as a water collection tank. It will be drilled
on the lower side portion of the water barrel to which water will flow through. The hole
created will be coupled to a lever ball valve to be able to control the amount of water
flowing through the filtration system. The valve will be connected to a SAER 1 HP Water
Pump with the use of a 1” Galvanized Pipe. The pipe used for every transfer of water
from one component to another will be using 1” Galvanized pipe.
Connected to the pump is a settling tank. The settling tank will be made up of
folded and riveted 19-gauge flat sheet. To prevent spilling and leak, waterproof sealants
will be used for the gaps of the settling tank. A set of lamella clarifier design will be
incorporated in the settling tank. The lower side area of the settling tank will also be
drilled and screened so that sludge will pass through below. The drilled hole on the
lower side of the settling tank will be coupled to a valve to permit excretion of sludge or
not. On the higher side area of the settling tank, another hole will be drilled in which
settled clean water can proceed to the commercial filter. Sludge pan will be prepared
under the valve where sludge will be excreted. For the hole on the upper side of the
settling tank, another valve will be coupled to the hole and to the galvanized pipe going
to the commercial filter.
The commercial filters will have water collection troughs beneath it for sample
harvesting. 2” angle bars will be cut and weld together for support of each components.
