HOMEWORK

B) In order not to start with her, Vladimir took two students one after the other. When he
reached her for the second time and she understood it was her turn, Manuela finally felt where
the cold grain which pressed her being was, hard as a lead nut, under the left breast, between
her heart and skin. She had the feeling that if she would search for it, she might find it.

C) The flying seemed to have been happening for a while. She was familiarized, she was
feeling like home, like in a tiny boudoir when the engine suddenly went quiet and the nose of
the plain curved towards the land. She firstly got scared, but it was enough to see Vladimir’s
face in the mirror for her to calm down. The white edge of the aerodrome passed flashing
under their feet and, a moment later, without being able to follow her sensations, she found
herself on the ground, with the plane running frisky on the grass, towards the point.

D)It was only late that he calmed down, exhaused by emotion. The spring air which was
coming from the open windows seemed cold to him; he closed them and, taking a blanket on
his shoulder, he sit down in the armchair where he stayed for a long time shaking, like a
miserable dog. He forgot eating; he wasn’t hungry. Later on he wasn’t even cold, he couldn’t
feel his body anymore. After a while, the sun, getting out of the clouds and passing slowly
above the house, sent two rectangles of light which advanced, gradually, towards the center of
the room until they reached the armchair and gilded him.

E) Amedeu’s delirium was lengthening back in time. He wasn’t seeing the letters anymore, he
wasn’t understanding anything, but he was feeling everything. He was feeling his being
elevated by the mad crowd, carried on their arms, from man to man, above their heads on a
living boulevard, the path of the greatest glory ever known by a mortal. And the acclamation
wouldn’t stop and the crowd would endlessly pour itself, thousands of people in delirium and
more and more spotlights being turned on.

F) Ever since, her thoughts kept on tormenting her. A life lived alive, agitated, without any
lust prevented her from meditating on the womanly function of her body. She ignored the
very reason of her coquetry. She started to watch herself differently in the mirror. A fact about
which she only had vague suspicions and which never lasted for too long inside her mind, was
now unfolding itself in detail. For a few days, she felt ashamed to meet Josefina and Rafail
and Vladimir’s presence, especially their impure closeness, made her feel scared, the meaning
of the chase away from heaven.
The feeling of horror never ruled her, but she had feelings of restlessness and fear for a long
while. With time, the impressions lodged; on the surface remained only a vague curiosity.
