PREFACE,

This little book is mostly a reprint of the

different pamphlets that have been published
from time to time giving an outline of the main
features of mr Scheme for the establishment
of an up-to-date self-contained Garden-Town
based on Co-operative principles.
A Co-operath'e Societ~r, by the name of the
]fodel ~'own Society, Limited, has come iuto
being to founel such a ~'owu in the vicinity of
Lahore. ~'he Punjab Government has agreed
to sell the planted portion of Rakh Kot Lakhpat>
covering an area of 1963 acres, to the Society at
Rs. 400 per acre. The possession of the land
will be given to the Society when it pa~rs ten per
cent. of the total amount, and the balance of
the money ,,-ill hu\'e to be paid by five equal
annual instalmen ts.
~'he Hakh is almost a square in shape, and
the nearest Railway Station is at a distance of
about half a mile from it. The distance from
-
the Lahore District Courts is about 5*, miles and
"

from the Lahore .Municipal Boundary it is only

3 miles. The Society intends to connect the new
Town with Lahore (Anarkali) by a Tramway line.
