STUDENTS WITH THE CHALLENGES OF THE 21ST CENTURY

Nowadays we have entered the 21st century ,of course we must have many
preparations that we have to do. According to Prof. Dr. Yahya Muhaimin, there are at least
three things that are a challenge for education in Indonesia in the future. First, globalization is
taking place since the early 1990s and still have an impact. Second, the education system is
still looking for steadiness and stability. Third, the cultural values of Indonesian society who
cannot make the process of renewal process, such as: "shortcut", undisciplined, egocentric,
patrimonial.

We can see Finland country, which has no natural resources. But because of its human
resources very nice, it appears as a country which is considerable on the world stage. As
nation generation we are demanded to learn more. We must also learn to approach a different
way, because we are facing a different era. The students in the 21st century face a variety of
risks and to uncertainty in line with the development environment so rapidly as technology,
science, economics and socio-culture, so that students in demand to learn more and be
proactive so that they have the knowledge andricher expertise . Students today live in a
world that is different and much more complex appeal in the days before. In the 21st century,
we as the students face more risks and situations of uncertainty. So, the students are required
to have more knowledge than a generation ago. There are three efforts to ensure that all
students. First, educators and policymakers must ensure that the instructional program is
complete and that content is not shortchanged for an ephemeral pursuit of skills. Second,
states, school districts, and schools need to revamp how they think about human capital in
education—in particular how teachers are trained. Finally, we need new assessments that can
accurately measure richer learning and more complex tasks.
