1.Hello, my name is Marija and today i am going to talk about Bob Dylan.

Bob Dylan is a famous songwriter, poet and an american folk singer who influenced many
people in the 1960s. Also he has been active as a painter, actor and scriptwriter.

2. He was born on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota and his real name was Robert Allen
Zimmerman. He grew up in the northeastern Minnesota mining town of Hibbing in a Jewish
family.

3. Since he was influenced by the music of Hank Williams, Little Richard, Elvis Presley and
Johnny Ray, he got his first guitar in 1955 at age 14. As a teenager, he played in various
bands and with time his interest in music deepened, with a particular passion for American
folk music and blues. One of his idols was the folk singer Woody Guthrie.

4. Fascinated by Guthrie and the Beat poetry, he began performing folk music in
coffehouses. Also at this time he adopted the last name Dylan after the Welsh poet Dylan
Thomas.

5. Dylan moved to New York City in 1961 and began to perform in clubs and cafés in
Greenwich Village. He met the record producer John Hammond, with whom he signed a
contract for his first album, Bob Dylan in 1962.

6. Dylan sold tens of millions of albums, wrote more than 500 songs recorded by more than
2,000 artists, performed all over the world. In the following years, he recorded a number of
albums which have had a tremendous impact on popular music: Bringing It All Back
Home and Highway 61 Revisited in 1965, Blonde On Blonde in 1966 and Blood On The Tracks in
1975. His productivity continued in the following decades, resulting in masterpieces like Oh
Mercy (1989), Time Out of Mind  (1997) and Modern Times  (2006).

7. Dylan is very famous by his tours. His tours in 1965 and 1966 attracted a lot of attention.
For a certain period film producer Pennebaker followed him on his tours and then he mae a
documentary film about Bob's tours called Don't look back (1967).

Since the late 1980s, Bob Dylan has toured constantly, playing over 3000 concerts during the
last 20 years. He calls this „The Never Ending Tour“.

8. Dylan was a singer and writer of protest songs and he was a politicaly active artist. He
sang about topics such as the social conditions of man, religion, politics and love.

Besides his production of albums, Dylan has published his prose and poetry collection
Tarantula (1971). He has written an autobiography Chronicles (2004) in which he talks about
his memories from the early years in New York.

9. Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016. As the Swedish Academy
said, he won it „having created new poetic expressions within the great American song
tradition.“

10. Many people try to follow Bob in his religious views. Even though he was born, as i
already said, in a Jewish family and even though he had later converted to christianity, he
now does not want to be a member of any religious group because he wants to be religious
in his own way.

“Here’s the thing with me and the religious thing. This is the flat-out truth: I find the
religiosity and philosophy in the music. I don’t find it anywhere else. Songs like “Let Me
Rest on a Peaceful Mountain” or “I Saw the Light”—that’s my religion. I don’t adhere to
rabbis, preachers, evangelists, all of that. I’ve learned more from the songs than I’ve learned
from any of this kind of entity. The songs are my lexicon. I believe the songs.”

– Bob Dylan, Newsweek, 1997

11. Speaking of his private life, he had two wives: Sara Dylan and Carolyn Dennis. He has 6
children. He is still touring and making new songs influencing people even nowadays.

12. There are a lot of movies that portray the life of this artist and some of them are: 65
revisited, Dont look back, Eat the document, Hearts of fire, Im not there, No directin home
etc. A new documentary about Bob Dylan came out this year. It is called Rolling Thuder
Revue and it was directed by Martin Scorcese, so if you want you can watch it.

13. Now i will read you some famous Dylans quotes, but always i will give you all papers.
On these papers you can find one quote. If you like the quote then you should listen to the
song to which that quote belongs.
