Do you meet the basic PC &
Internet requirements?
 Internet Explorer 9 or above.  Minimum 13 inch display.
 Microsoft Windows 7, 8 or 10.
 Keyboard and mouse.
 For PCs running 32 bit Windows
minimum 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor.  Up to date anti-virus software.
 Skype installed.
 Headphones and a microphone.
 Flash player installed.
 512 MB (0.5 GB) free memory.  Stable access to the Internet at 500kbps.

 1 GB of free disk space  Audio Codec ’97 required.

Before running a password test

To avoid interruptions during the test ensure that:

 You create a desktop shortcut

 Internet Explorer ‘Autocomplete/Add-ons and pop-ups’ are blocked.
 English Language Testing website is added to Internet Explorer’s trusted sites.
 Internet Explorer is not in ‘compatibility view mode’.
 Use of microphone is allowed in Flash settings.
 Headphones/microphones check is completed.

Create a desktop shortcut

Right click on your desktop, select New then select Shortcut.

In "Type the location of the item" enter the following:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -k -nohome
http://passwordplatform.englishlanguagetesting.co.uk
Click on Next.
In "Type a name for this shortcut"
enter "Password Platform".
Click on Finish.

Block Internet Explorer Autocomplete/Add-ons.

Click on the Tools menu icon, click

on Internet Options and select the
Content tab.

In the AutoComplete section click on

Settings.

Untick Forms and User Names

and Passwords on Forms, Click
OK and Click OK in the Internet
Options Window.

Block Internet Explorer pop-ups.

Click on the Tools menu icon, click on Internet

Options, then Security.

On the Privacy tab, under Pop-up Blocker,

untick “Turn on Pop-up Blocker” box and select
OK.

Add English Language Testing to Internet Explorer’s
trusted sites.
Click on the Tools menu icon, click on Internet
Options, then Security, click on Trusted Sites
and then on Sites.

Untick the "Require server verification ...." box

and enter
http://passwordplatform.englishlanguagetesting.co
.uk
Click on Add, Close, then on OK.

Ensure Internet Explorer is not in ‘compatibility view mode’
Start Internet Explorer, go to http://passwordplatform.englishlanguagetesting.co.uk.

Click Tools in the menu bar, click Compatibility View settings.

Ensure passwordplatform.englishlanguagetesting.co.uk is not in the list of websites.
If it is: click on it to highlight the website URL, then click on Remove and Close.

Allow use of microphone in Flash settings
Search for ‘Flash’ in the search.
Click on the Camera and Mic tab
Click on Camera and Microphone Settings by
Site.
Click on Add.

Enter
passwordplatform.englishlanguagetesting.co.uk
Select Allow in the drop down menu.
Click Add, then Close.

Complete a headphones/microphones check

Start Internet Explorer and go to

Press the F11 key.
Click on For Test Takers.
Click on Password Solo Tests.
Click on Run a Password Solo Test.

A login page will be displayed.

Enter

Clicklogin.
Click start and then continue, enter your
name. Click on continue and
follow the instructions on the screen.

Once you have completed the check-up click finis

Complete a practice password test

Restart the PC and make sure all programmes that generate "pop up"
messages are turned off.
Start Internet Explorer and go to
"http://www.englishlanguagetesting.co.uk". Press the "F11" key.

Click on "For Test Takers", then on "Practice Password Tests",

then on "Run a Practice Password Test". A login page will be
displayed.

Enter a Password test login and password, then click on "login".

Enter your details into the candidate

details page.
Click on continue to start the Practice test.

When the Practice test has been completed

and the login page is displayed again, press
the Alt + F4 buttons together on the
keyboard to exit.
