Enabling Early Launch Anti Malware on Windows 10 desktops,

laptops, or tablets
Early launch anti-malware (ELAM) protects your computer when it starts up and before third-
party drivers initialize. Use these instructions to enable ELAM on a Windows 10 desktop, laptop,
or tablet.

Note: Windows 10 phones do not have or require an ELAM.

Enabling ELAM on a PC device


1. Click ALL Settings.

2. Go to Update & security.


3. Go to Recovery, Advanced startup, click Restart now, and wait for the device to
restart.

4. Select Troubleshoot.
5. Select Advanced options.

6. Select Startup Settings.


7. Click Enable early-launch anti-malware protection, and click Restart.

8. If asked, enter the Bitlocker recovery key, and wait for the device to restart
9. Log in to the device with your credentials.
10. In the Search window, type Security and Maintenance, and verify that anti-virus
protection is turned on.
