DD Life Opportunities Foundation

Lynnwood, WA 99224
Email: chair.ddlof@gmail.com
Website: www.ddlof.org
Because establishing a special needs trust can be expensive, and finding a
trustee who understands the needs of a person with special needs may be
difficult, we created the Developmental Disabilities Life Opportunities
Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to provide annual awards to
assist individuals with few financial resources to open an account with the
State of Washington’s Developmental Disabilities Life Opportunities Trust
(DDLOT). Professional management and administration of the DDLOT
accounts are provided through The Arc of Washington State, a non-profit
organization founded by parents in 1935, with oversight provided by the
Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council. Funds are invested
by the Washington State Investment Board. Expanding access to the
DDLOT for those who can’t afford to pay for enrollment fees benefits
everyone who participates because the cost of annual management (such
as accounting, tax filing and disbursements) can be reduced if the
administration is shared by more beneficiaries. With more individuals adding
to the endowment, it will grow, resulting in greater returns to each individual
beneficiary.

Despite the Internet’s many wonderful benefits, a perfect storm has
emerged for the online victimization of children. Kids have free and easy
access to pornography, and sexual predators have easy and anonymous
access to kids. Law enforcement limitations and challenges abound, and
naïve kids are engaging in risky online behavior. Parents, educators and
other caring adults must serve as the first line of defense to protect kids
online, but they are often uninformed or ill-equipped to deal with these and
other evolving threats. As one of the nation’s leading Internet safety
organization since 1994, Enough Is Enough responded to this call-to-action
by creating the Internet Safety 101SM Program. The state-of-the-art, multi-
media program is specifically designed to educate, equip, and empower
parents, educators and other caring adults with the knowledge and
resources they need to protect children online. The program includes the
Internet Safety 101SM Web site, a comprehensive 4-part DVD series,
accompanying workbook and other resources. Visit the website for more
detailed information.

FRS is a voluntary program serving runaway adolescents and youth in
conflict with their families. The program targets adolescents between the
ages of 13-17. FRS services are meant to resolve crisis situations and
prevent unnecessary out of home placement. They are not long term
services. The services will assess and stabilize the family's situation. The
goal is to return the family to a pre-crisis state and to work with the family to
identify alternative methods of handling similar conflicts. If longer-term
service needs are identified, FRS will help facilitate getting the youth and
his/her family into on-going services.

an aging senior or disabled person alone. Heartwarming Care offers in-
home respite care in Pierce, Thurston and King counties to provide family
members with some time off and peace of mind knowing that their family
member is being well cared for. This allows for a more healthy family
relationship and time for the caregiver to focus on his or her own personal

The Home Care Referral Registry is a free, state-funded, program to help

people receiving Medicaid Personal Care Hours, DDSA, respite care hours,
or find pre-screened providers in the COPES Program. It is a data-base
search and match program to help find a provider who best matches the
client’s needs. Once a match is made, we refer a list of possible providers to
the client for them to interview. All of the providers in the database have
been interviewed and had a yearly background check successfully
completed. We can assist the case managers with contracting and starting
the fingerprint process. Call for more detailed information.
