Case Analysis - 5 Steps

Front-end analysis: The Diagnostic Phase > Detecting the problems

1. Key Issue: Identification of the main issue > the overarching issue in the case

2. Sub-Issues: Identification of all other issues and problems in the case

meaningful groupings (eg: operational, financial, HR, strategic,

Central Analysis: Applying relevant theories – using these to gain clearer insights into the case issues and
problems

3. Relevant Theories: List 10-12 of the most relevant theories to this case
➢ Show clearly how each theory applies to the case

Back-end Analysis: Generating solutions to the case

4. Four Possible Solutions: Brainstorming activity


➢ considering alternative courses of action
➢ each solution must be a stand-alone strategy – briefly stated in one line.
➢ each solution should aim to address or resolve the key issue in the case
➢ putting several different feasible options on the table
➢ indicate advantages and disadvantages relating to the implementation of each one

5. Preferred Solution + Implementation Plan


➢ More detailed explanation of your chosen preferred solution
➢ The implementation plan shows how the preferred strategy (solution) will be
executed
➢ The implementation plan should also address the most important sub-issues
➢ Useful to include a Gantt chart or timeline of key events/activities
