We all have different perspectives, outlooks, and judgments toward the several things in life. We
are all entitled to our own opinions, but even if we have these entitlements, we still should
consider those who may be offended and aggrieved with our judgments. Continuing with this
topic, I will be associating this topic with Aaron Beverly’s piece in the
Toastmasters' 2019 World Champion of Public Speaking, entitled ―An Unbelievable Story‖.

First, I will differentiate our ideas and check if there are any similarities in the way we see his
speech. We both thought that the speech was entertaining yet very informative. The message
he wants to deliver was well interpreted and through a real life experience being shared to us,
we were able to see his situation during that time. We got the message he was trying to convey,
and it is all about discrimination. Letting anybody feel isolated or unwanted just because they
are different is not a good way of practicing our right to freedom of opinion and expression.

Now, I will start talking about the distinctions we have. We really didn’t have that much
difference, since we both had took it on a serious note. There were lots of realizations, and it
had also been mentioned that we must never judge those who we refer to as different. J.K.
Rowling has once mentioned in one of her famous writings that understanding is the first step to
acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery. Acceptance is indeed the key for
every single person’s betterment.

Following to that are the actions to be taken. ―By judging others, we blind ourselves to our own
evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are.‖ — Dietrich Bonheoffer.
Once in our lives, we have heard the saying that we must never judge the book by its cover, and
I agree. We must never let anyone feel bad for being themselves that includes making them feel
unwanted or disrespected. Let us make it a habit not to judge others just because we feel that
they are different. Interestingly, it doesn’t take that much to treat others respectfully. To put it
simply, conduct yourself accordingly with good manners and treat others the way you would like
to be treated.
To sum it all up, I can say that we really have our own opinions and perceptions. There may be
times where our thoughts are similar, and there will also be times where our thoughts are
contrasting. But regardless of these opinions, respect and understanding must come first. Just
as the saying goes, ―Respect is a two-way street, if you want to get it; you’ve got to give it.‖
