qualities and traits in the past.

1. Working at Hilton I have noticed errors and inconsistencies on our Banquet Orders for the
day that others did not notice. Realizing this, I could clear up contradicting ideas between
managers for how a room was supposed to be set up that day.

Chapter 2: Know Yourself to Market Yourself

2. Sometimes I must wake up at 4am to work in the morning and many times people are
grumpy because it is so early. I pride myself on being a joyful person because sometimes all
that is needed is a smile in the morning to help someone have a good day. People like being
around others who radiate positivity rather than negativity and in turn this creates a
healthier, more efficient work environment.
3. At Hilton, there is a lot going on at once. In our back hallway we sometimes have 15 people
running around doing 15 different jobs. Being flexible is necessary because many jobs are
needing to be done. I sometimes have had to leave a couple tasks I am completing to run
and help others with other jobs.
4. Because I work on call my scheduled days and times are never consistent. Sometimes I work
nights on Tuesdays and sometimes early mornings on Weekends. In order to keep track of
when and where I work, I must stay organized. Since I am also doing online schooling it can
be difficult to keep track of when all my assignments are due. I keep a planner regularly
updated to keep track of my workdays and times and my deadlines for assignments.
5. I live in a house with 5 brothers who are very crazy and many times annoying. Growing up as
the only girl has taught me much patience in everyday life and I have carried that into my
relationships and work life. Much patience is required when dealing with upset customers
and tending to their needs.

For each of your top five high-rated items, describe why an employer might want to hire
a person with this quality or trait.

1. Attention to detail is a desired trait in an employee because that employee will catch small
things that others may miss. One can read directions thoroughly and not miss important
details.
2. Being an optimistic person creates a positive work environment for everyone on the job. No
one likes to be around a negative person who brings down the mood of everyone working.
Believing in possibilities and finding solutions is better than idolizing problems.
3. Being a flexible employee is important in order to fill shoes and complete tasks. A worker
who is flexible can take on many tasks. Having flexible employees means not having to find
others to take on more work.
4. An organized employee wont miss deadlines or crucial work assignments. Organization helps
an employee be punctual and enables them to be more efficient in their work.
5. Patience is a crucial trait when dealing with customers. Employers need employees who will
help customers with all their needs no matter how big or small and deal with them with
patience.
