VMC Spring-Flex hangers are offered in two basic designs —
Series “SH” spring hangers designed to isolate low frequency
vibrations and Series “RSH” combination spring in series with a
neoprene element designed for critical locations where it is impor-
tant to isolate both noise & vibration.
Spring-Flex Hangers VMC Spring Flex hangers are necessary to prevent vibration in pip-
ing and equipment from being transmitted to the building structure.
We recommend that Spring Flex hangers be used for all suspend-
Series SH/RSH ed piping in equipment rooms or 50 ft from vibrating equipment,
whichever is greater. To avoid reducing the effectiveness of the
equipment isolators, at least 3 of the first hangers from the equip-
ment should provide the same deflection as the equipment isola-
tors. The remaining hangers should be type SH or RSH with .75
inch deflection.
In order to reduce installation labor costs, Vibration Mountings and
Controls has designed a revolutionary line of hangers that incorpo-
rate a clevis or trapeze hanger combined with vibration isolation in
one product. See our series CIH, CIR, TIH or TIR for details.
To prevent load transfer to the equipment flanges when the piping
system is filled, VMC has designed pre-compressed and pre-posi-
tioning hangers which should be installed at the first three hanger
locations adjacent to the equipment. These designs insure that the
weight of the piping is kept off isolated equipment in order to main-
tain alignment, protect flexible connectors, and keep equipment
isolators from becoming overloaded.
When used in seismic applications, VMC hangers should be used
in conjunction with Series SCR seismic cable restraints which
restrain suspended piping and equipment during an earthquake.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
FOR VMC SERIES RH/SH/RSH HANGERS
1. Piping and equipment should be hung at its proper elevation by
using temporary fixtures that can be removed after vibration
hangers are installed and adjusted.
2. Hangers may be fastened directly to the structure (be sure not to
short circuit the neoprene element in RSH series when fastening
to the ceiling) or inserted in the hanger rods. For best results
hangers should be located at or near the ceiling.
3. Install hangers
4. Turn nut on lower rod assembly clockwise one complete turn on
each hanger. Repeat this procedure until temporary hanging fix-
tures are loose and load of piping or equipment is suspended
completely on the vibration hangers.
5. Remove temporary hanger fixtures and level piping or equipment
by taking additional turns on the lower hanger rod nut clockwise
to raise, counter clockwise to lower as required.
