Junior Year Academic Reflection

Fall

You are now about twenty months away from high school graduation. Over the course of those
months, you will be starting to make decisions about who you are as a young adult, where you
want to be, and what you want to do with your life beyond high school. Take a moment to reflect
on where you have been and where you are going.

Think of a class that you have had success with over the course or your high school career. Why
do you think you were successful in this particular class? What did you do to help yourself?
What did your teacher do? What have you discovered about what works for you as a learner?

I think I was successful in Chemistry and History because of the way it was taught with all the
notes we took and then all the practice we did to learn a new subject. I have learned that it’s
easier for me to learn a subject by going at a faster or decent past because then I’m constantly
focused on the subject and I don’t have time to procrastinate.

Now think of a class that you have struggled with in some way. Why do you think you had a
harder time with this particular class? What did you do/not do that might have impacted the
experience? What might have helped?

I think I struggle the most in math because I constantly feel like I have to self teach myself the
subject or feel pressured to just get my work done for the credit not to learn it. I feel like this
impacts me by being able to communicate with others but also feeling stressed or frustrated
when I or no one knows how to do the lesson. It would help if the teacher could teach more nad
to interact with us more instead of getting us in trouble when not knowing what to do.

At this point, where do you see yourself when you graduate from high school? College, J.C.,
trade school, work world, travel,....?

I see myself going to a four-year college in Idaho and study to become an occupational therapist.
I would like to travel when I can, but probably when I am way older. I prefer not to do more than
4 or 6 years of college because I want to settle down at a younger age.

What goals will you have to accomplish, academically speaking, in order to get yourself to
where you want to be?

I will graduate high school with at least 3.0 or higher to get into the college I want to get into. I
will try to reach all the accruements from high school, if not more. Also, do any other events that
may help me understand what I need to accomplish to become successful.

What SPECIFIC strategies could you adopt over the course of this year to help yourself?
I will attend fairs or events held at my school to open my eyes up to opportunities. I will also
make sure to study a week before my exams. I will make sure I do everything in my power to get
my straight As. Finally, I would visit my counselor for any question I may have or for advice on
my future or anything to do to my high school years.
