Song Teaching Reflection

This assignment created an interesting opportunity for me being at home during the

quarantine. Because I had to give my lesson to a family member, I ended up teaching my mother

the song. This allowed me to talk through the lesson with her before and after teaching it. She

offered me many good notes as she is an elementary school teacher herself and I only have had

experience leading songs in a high school setting.

I have always been comfortable with public speaking, so it is not a great challenge for me

to get up in front of a class and be engaging. However, most of my experience has been in front

of my peers or those older than me. This assignment allowed me to assume the role of an

elementary school teacher which offered me new challenges in my approach. After reviewing my

submitted video, I realized that I may have assumed more about their knowledge of the subject

than I should have. Although I was engaging and encouraging, I did not give enough information

to make my “students” fully comfortable completing the task.
