Chicago Bears: Draft Review

The Chicago Bears went 8-8 going third in the NFC North, a division that is only getting stronger.
Now with the draft finally here, the Bears had the chance the holes that they are now
presented with.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Chicago did not have a first-round pick. They traded that pick to the
Las Vegas Raiders for Kahlil Mack, one of the most prestigious pass rushers in the game.
However, the Bears were able to get an extra second round pick from the raiders this year.

After going 12-4 and first in the NFC North, last year the bears had numerous of problems. They
also had off-season changes that leads them to have many needs that they didn’t have years
before.

Team’s Needs: OT, CB, TE, SS, WR

Round 2, Pick 43: Cole Kmet TE, Notre Dame

The young 6’6 TE Cole Kmet has a lot of pressure on him in Chi-town. The Offense that Matt
Nagy likes to run relays heavily on the Tight End position. Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen, the
two top TE’s on the roster, were out all last season. Now with them off the roster, Ryan Pace
decided to sign former All-Pro Jimmy Graham. With the drafting pick of Kmet and the signing of
Jimmy Graham, the Bears hope these two can be a duo to be reckoned with.

Round 2, Pick 50: Jaylon Johnson CB, Utah

With the duo of All-Pro Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara, the Bears did not have to worry
about Cornerback for a couple years. However, the Bears released Amukamara in hopes to get
younger at the position. Chicago drafted Jaylon Johnson to pair up with fuller. Johnson played
on a very experience Utah team, so joining the Monsters of Midway shouldn’t be a problem for
him.

Round 5, Pick 155: Trevis Gipson DE, Tulsa

The Bears have a great front-seven, especially with the addition of Robert Quinn who had 11
sacks last year with Dallas. This is one of the questionable draft choices. The Bears have many
other problems to address and Defensive End is the position where they are the strongest. They
could have gotten any other position and it would been better (except for QB).

Round 5, pick 163: Kindle Vildor CB, Georgia Southern

The Bears select defense for the third pick in a row, even with have the 30 th ranked offense in
the NFL. If that doesn’t scream Chicago Bears football, I don’t know what will. The Bears get a
pair of corners in the draft with the addition of Kindle Vildor.
Round 5, pick 173: Darnell Mooney WR, Tulane

Finally, some offense again. Chicago had the most drops by wide receivers in the entire NFL.
Now with a young and heavily ridiculed Quarterback like Mitch Trubiksy, you need receivers
that will catch the ball. Also, with the loss of Taylor Gabriel, the Bears found their speedy
replacement with Mooney.

Round 7, pick 226 and pick 227: Arlington Hambright OT Colorado and Lachavious Simmons OT
Tennessee State

I combined these two picks because they are back to back and Pace was looking for the same
exact two players. Chicago’s biggest need this off-season was OT and they barely made any
signings in free agency to fill this big hole. They went with OT for their last two picks.
