Chapter 1:

Introduction
1.1 Introduction

The Palestine Technical University Khadouri includes many colleges and

disciplines that seek to provide distinctive technical, educational programs, by providing

various academic programs of high quality in university education and graduate studies,

and prepares competent graduates who are able to contribute effectively to making the

future of their country and their nation, by enriching Theoretical and applied knowledge

compatible with the moral, social and cultural standards of society.

Palestine Technical University is one of the institutions of higher education in Palestine

and is the first and only public university in the West Bank that belongs to the Ministry of

Education and Higher Education and provides education to all groups of society as it

provides many grants and assistance to students.

In recent years, the demand for studying medical specialties increased and the need for

the Palestinian community for medical colleges increased as a result of the development

of medicine and in light of the need for a medical college affiliated to the Ministry of

Education and the need for a medical college in northern Palestine, with the presence of

two medical colleges at An-Najah National University in Nablus and Al-Quds University

in Abu Dis Was directed to design a medical college on the territory of Khadouri

University as a graduation project for students of the construction department.

1.2 Objectives
The medical school project was chosen as a graduation project based on several factors

studied in this project, one of the most important goals that helped in choosing the

graduation project is to find a proposed scheme for a medical school in the northern West

Bank to facilitate students access and study without the presence of obstacles from the

absence of special transport lines With students to reach the Al-Najah universities in

Nablus and Al-Quds University in Abu Dis to the barriers established by the Israeli

occupation on Palestinian roads that limit and disrupt the students ’access to their places

of study for these specializations or having to sleep in students housing.

It will also help to expand the scope of scientific disciplines and meet the needs of the

job market and the desires of students to study various medical disciplines. As well as

activating and directing scientific research towards solving health problems

There is a prospect for the medical school’s participation with the Ministry in developing

the national health system on sound scientific foundations

This project will also have a positive impact on Khadouri University, by increasing

visitors when holding medical seminars and conferences at the university.

And do not forget that the Palestinian Technical University provides many grants and aid

that would greatly help reduce costs for students who wish to study medical specialties.

On the other hand, to analyze the project in an integrated manner in all aspects:

architectural and structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical

1.3 Methodology:

The project start by selecting the site and getting data, plans and surveying for the

targeted land from planning and development department in Palestine Technical

University – Khadoorie. After that, all the required standards and other data that related

to the different aspects for medicine schools design summarized in some detail in the

upcoming sections. This can be accomplished by carefully investigating local and

international case studies in this project.

The second step after, is to study the architectural side of design by get to the suitable

degree of comfort to accomplish all jobs in this building and study and explain

relationship between functions with a bubble diagram relying on codes and standards and

references as neufert. The design process will be continuing the structural mechanical,

electrical and environmental design plans.

This will be introduced by simulation programs (AutoCAD and Revit for architectural

design, SAP2000-16 and ETABS for structural and design, DesignBuilder and DIALux

for mechanical, environmental and lighting.

1.4 Limitations

During the work on our project, the team faced some difficulties and challenges in

Completing this research, the most important of these difficulties were as following:

1. Difficulty in obtaining survey and level charts from the Engineering Department at

Palestine Technical University “Kadoorie”

2. Difficulty in reaching the specified land due to the lack of roads leading to it.

3. Lack of soil tests for the land allocated to the project.

4. When we started the process of studying and analyzing the local case study, we had

difficulties in obtaining the plans for the analysis (and because of that the focus was on

the global case sited)

1.5 Codes and standards
