Module 1 Assignment 2 - ISTE Standards for Teachers Self Analysis

Standard 1 – Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity

I feel pretty confident when it comes to facilitating instruction through the use of digitally presented
content. I have been using a variety of media such as videos, audio, interactive quizzes, online quizzes
and so on. In relation to creativity, I have made use of tools that allowed students come apply
knowledge by creating presentations following digital models. In a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate
myself 4 because there is always room for improvement.

Standard 2 – Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessment

Designing learning experiences using digital tools is something I am familiar with though when it
comes to assessment, I confess I have and am looking forward to experimenting a bit. In ESL/ELL
summative assessments tend to be more traditional, pen to paper, especially when it comes to writing
skills. I would rate myself a low 4.

Standard 3 – Model digital age work and learning

For a while I believe this has been part of my practice. Sharing knowledge with peers and discussing
digital tools has helped me develop my skills. Rate: 5

Standard 4 - Promote and model digital age citizenship and responsibility

Cultural awareness is primordial in the ESL classroom and promoting equality has never been so
important. Having worked with Japanese, Chinese, Saudi Arabian, Colombian, Mexican, Russian
students has been an eye opening experience and being able to enforce mutual respect and a healthy
learning environment are detrimental in this environment. I would rate myself as a 5 here.

Standard 5 – Engage in professional growth and leadership

I consider myself a lifelong learner and for that reason I am constantly trying to be current with what is
out there in terms of instructional technology. I intend to teach online as soon as possible and this is one
of my biggest motivations to keep up. It is undeniable that teachers are often seen as natural leaders,
which is true to a certain extent, but personally, my leadership ends in the classroom as I do not have
most of the traits that make a leader, I would consider my role as a support one mostly. That is why I
rate myself as a 4 here too.
