Ergonomics aims to design work environments to fit workers' needs in order to minimize strain and maximize productivity. In packaging workstations, repetitive motions can cause ergonomic injuries over time if workstations are not designed properly. A study of a packaging workstation found issues like restricted movement, lack of organization, and safety hazards that impacted workers' posture and comfort during long shifts. The objective was to redesign the workstation to reduce strain from repetitive tasks and improve usability, circulation, and safety.

The word "ergonomics"comes from the Greek language. It originates from the word " ergon," meaning work, and "nomos" meaning "laws".Today this term refers to the art of " designing the job to fit the worker rather than forcing the worker to fit the job." Ergonomics covers many different aspects of a job:from the physical stresses a job places on muscles, joints, tendons, nerves and bones to environmental factors like noise, lighting, temperature, air moisture and other factors that can affect human health. In the world of packaging, the focus is on the packaging solutions.Focus is on cartoners,Casepackers,Traypackers and Palletizers.Even though the main purpose of packaging is protecting the products. We shouldn't overlook the importance of protecting the workers as well. ERGONOMICAL INJURIES IN PACKAGING INDUSTRY Manual packaging operations often require the employees to stand in one place, doing repetitive movements. some packaging operations demand heavy lifting and unnatural postures. All workers that handle packaging are in the risk of repetitive motion injury-injury caused by doing the same movements again and again which strains the body parts. A JOURNAL ON ERGONOMICAL WORKSTATION A study was ASSESSMENT carried on packagingON PACKAGING department for assessing the workstation design and postures adopted during work. The task of assembling the many components and putting them into an integrated whole is called as" ergonomical workstation".It is very much like solving a jigsaw puzzle. The objective of ergonomics in workspace design is to achieve a transparent interface between the user and the task such that the users are not distracted by the equipment they are using. Distractions are may be due to discomforts or workstation usability problems. i.e., the elbow rests of chair sometimes hit the leading edge of the desk if they are too long, thus restricting access to the desk. In the workstations for standing workers, lack of clear space for the feet may impede task related postural movements. Also, poorly designed sitting environment can result in poor sitting habits. Therefore, the well-designed workstations should be unobtrusive with respect to the task performance. One of the most important occupations involving repetitive work is packaging. Packaging may be defined as a means of protecting a product to ensure the safe delivery of the product to consumer in a sound condition at a minimum cost incurred in production. The study was focused on the problem faced by foodgrain packaging workers. Foodgrain packers work for nine long hours with one hour lunch- break. The main task of the worker is to pack the foodgrains. All the activities filling, weighing, sealing and labeling are performed at one place which lack a proper organization, the movement place is less due to which bodily movement are restricted. Also there is no proper circulation area which creates danger for accidents between food grain packers and the loader who load the godown with food grains. All these aspects The main objective of the study was to redesign the workstation for foodgrain packaging department where the job is considered as repetitive. Time Study: The time spent by the workers on different activities involved in foodgrain packing was studied in detail. Total time spent on nine hours occupational work was
