Mohonk Preserve Nude Trail and Naked Sunbathing At Split

Rock

While we still have some beautiful autumn days left, I needed to share a clothes-optional spot
to go where you may also get your outside / autumn leaves repair! It is located in the Mohonk
Preserve in the town of New Paltz in upstate New York. It's about one hour and half drive
from NYC.
We went there on a bright day in August. There are numerous hiking and mountain biking
trails all over this mountainous rural area, as well as rock climbing and various other outdoor
activities you are able to do there.
The place we went to is a clothing-optional section on the Coxing Trail. The closest parking
lot is at the Coxing Trail Head. This lot fills up quickly. It was full upon our day coming so
instead we parked at the West Trapps trail head. It was a longer manners away (approx 30
minutes), but a nice hike anyway! It's a relatively simple hike, but sneakers are
recommended. The trail runs along a stream called Coxing Kill, and first you pass through
the clothes-mandatory component, along with a popular area called Split Rock.

And it is possible to remove all clothing and be as freely unclothed as the wildlife![There is so
regrettably no established name for this particular place. Questions From a Non-Naturist
Mom On Nudit Etiquette, Home Naturism, & Kids refer to it as Split Rock, though that's the
name of the textile section. More with this later.] A little farther down we found the area where
people (mostly guys on this day) hang out on the level stone relaxing outside in seats or on
towels. It is in the middle of the woods so there's a mix of shade and sun. The stream of
water moves steadily around the rock, creating pools and small waterfalls. So pretty and
peaceful!
The area is thick with trees and lots of natural plant life for the senses to feast on. Take a
look at these orange mushrooms I seen and a butterfly in motion!

Soon after our visit, I wrote to the Mohonk Preserve to inquire why there is no info on their
site about this clothing-optional area. Their reply:
"Within an attempt to accommodate a varied population of visitors, the clothing-optional area
on the Coxing Kill stream is a longstanding tradition at the Mohonk Preserve. Just a tiny
fraction of our visitors take advantage of this area.
Over the years we have had to handle a certain amount of battle between a large proportion
of our visitors and the group utilizing the clothing-optional area. The Evolution of On-Line
Naturism and Communicating On The World Wide Web of our members and visitors don't
believe that this really is an appropriate use of our landscape since it's the prospect of
bringing families with children into contact with people in the clothes-optional area.
Families have expressed to us their discomfort with this exposure (pun intended) and feel
that this area of the Preserve becomes, de facto, off-limits to them. Because we attempt to
balance opportunities for all to appreciate our properties, we do not publicize the clothes-
optional area on the Coxing Stream."

Sounds like they ran into a little controversy and some mad parents. The standard "What
about the kids!" crap. Thanks, MP, for deciding that a designated clothing-optional area is
appropriate.
Now to train people on how uncomplicated nudity actually does not damage children. You'd
think that with an area set aside, both groups would have the ability to peacefully coexist.
The Preserve is huge enough! I also don't believe these families realize how very few areas
there are to legitimately skinny dip outside in NY state.
Agricultural-zoned lands don't necessarily require a permit for fencing, but Paradise Ranch
sought and obtained the county permit because of the SMA overlay. Condition 6 of the SMA
permit specifically requires the lateral, coastal trail to be left open. The sidelong, coastal
access trail to Lepeuli is believed by many to be part of the Ala Loa, an ancient Hawaiian trail
that goes around the entire coast of Kauai along near the sea. This is another trail compared
to the steep, county owned trail overgrown with brush and trees mentioned earlier. In 2010
the County of Kauai acquired another steep, indebtedness-laden trail in the immediate place
it leases from Waioli Corporation, which excludes a high number of beachgoers like the
elderly because of its steepness. Cooling Naked At The Mohonk Preserve
Anyway, we haven't been back since August, but I'll wager it is friendly there this time of
year! Anyone up for a clothes-optional hike this fall?
