MAS Bodyline PVT

Bodyline is a joint investment between MAS Holdings Limited Sri Lanka, Triumph International
Germany and MAST Industries Inc. USA (MAST is the sourcing arm of Limited Brands whose
primary apparel brand is Victoria’s Secret). Bodyline (Pvt) Ltd is one of the largest exporter of
apparel in Sri Lanka. Mahesh Amalian, Sherad Amalian and Ajey Amalian are the owners of the
MAS. By considering the organizational structure of the bodyline, there are many departments
within the organization such as planning, merchandising, administration, human resource,
finance, MAS Operating System, IT, production, customer service, business planning, raw
material warehouse, material quality assurance, finished goods warehouse, and quality control
etc. When considering Bodyline (Pvt) Ltd Company’s product portfolio, they mainly produce
Bras, Briefs, Performance wear, Swimwear and Sportswear. The major customer of the Bodyline
is Victoria’s Secret which is owner of more than thousand trade canters and subsidiary of
Limited Brands. Other customers are NIKE, M&S, TRIUMPH, PINK and SLOGGI. The parties
set up to the Joint Venture with a 1/3 equal investment and the understanding up to 2003 was that
MAS would contribute with the managerial expertise, Triumph would provide the technical
expertise and managed front-end whereas MAST would fill the capacity. The Plant was to focus
only on mass manufacturing of the products designed and developed by Triumph for MAST.
Profitability was guaranteed by the JV agreement. By looking at the last decade from helicopter
view it is understood that Bodyline has grown on its sales volume & revenue. Further Bodyline
has shown less dependency on its main customers, from its inception to present context.
Acquiring new Customers & further advancing its technology Bodyline has laid the foundation
to capitalize in the future. Employees play an important role, so employee’s satisfaction is a very
essential one, hence there arises a need to study the job satisfaction of employees. The factors of
employee job satisfaction could have a great impact on the jobholder as well as the job functions.
Job satisfaction can be an important indicator of how employees feel about their job and an
interpreter of work behaviors such as organizational citizenship, absenteeism and labour
turnover. Further job satisfaction can partially mediate the relationship of personality variables
and deviate work behaviors. The company is highly concerned on employee satisfaction. The
management is always considered toward to reduce absenteeism ratio and turnover ratio. In HR
department, it is generally calculated absenteeism ratio and turnover ratio of employees for
managerial purpose and they try to strategically manage invaluable human resources. In this
research it is highly considered on causes affected to the satisfaction/dissatisfaction of employees
and suggestions and recommendations for minimizing dissatisfaction or increasing satisfaction.
