Reflection 6

a. My role as an online teacher

My role as an online teacher was to observe how the students interacted with the lesson that was

given. While the zoom class meeting was live, I would watch the students who see how excited

they got about a certain project. It was very good to see that the students were still very eager to

learn about the ocean, summer, dinosaurs, and all the different messages that intertwined within

the main lessons.

b. The student(s) and families

During the zoom meetings with the students, I could see parents in the background giving the

children support. One parent, in particular, showed the teacher a project/worksheet that the

student had been working on. It was inspiring to see how much the parents were doing with the

child to keep them engaged in their learning.

c. The setting/situation at the time

I believe that with the situation, using the platform of zoom was a great idea. Students were still

able to see their friends and their teacher. At the same time, students were working together by

answering questions and activities prepared by the teacher. I think as a group, the setting of the

classroom worked out very well and the students seemed to enjoy it.

d. Research topic thoughts

After completing my research paper about family engagement, I was able to learn new strategies

of getting parents more involved in their child learning. As a teacher, opening up a classroom

works great for parents who can attend, but truly reaching out to invite parents to special

activities is very powerful for a child’s learning.
