Summary

Qualitative methods of assessment are ways of gathering information that yield results that
can't easily be measured by or translated into numbers. They are often used when you need
the subtleties behind the numbers – the feelings, small actions, or pieces of community
history that affect the current situation.

Highlights

The purpose of qualitative analysis is the use of Reflection, Verbal Reports and Diary
Studies. The aim of these is to gather information about the insights, thoughts and opinions
of a learner.

It also focuses on the techniques for monitoring students progress. This includes recording
of oral languages experience, use of checklist, anecdotal comments, interview, portfolios,
journals and self and peer assessment.

Qualitative analysis has its types and these are:


1. Conversational Analysis
2. Discourse Analysis
3. Test Language Analysis
4. Task Characteristics

Feedback methods is a very helpful in gqthering information or criticism that is given to our
students to say what can be done to improve a performance, product, or in a particular
subject.

Application

Qualitative Analysis can provide and hone the skills that came useful in an individual’s daily
life.
In the teaching and learning process it focuses on underatanding how people make meaning
of and experience their environment.

Some of the skills that are important and can be gained from qualitative analysis are the

4. Seeing the big picture


5. Gaining valuable insights that can be helpful in deciding critical decisions.
