Job Profile:

An assistant Accounting clerk will be able to:


- understand and make use of the basic principles and procedures of accounting
- apply accounting for cash, receivables, inventories, plant assets, and intangible assets
- apply accounting for payroll in Ethiopian context
- apply accounting for liabilities
- apply accounting for owner’s equity

Course objective: This course is designed to enable the trainees to analyze and maintain the
proper accounting procedures used in controlling financial activities of a business firm, gather,
and record the necessary, financial data, and prepare financial statements following the
financial accounting principles.

Introduction to Accounting course has seven duties, out of these duties, two of them are fully
covered in this booklet. These are: duty 1 (applying generally accepted accounting principles)
and duty 7 (accounting for current liabilities).

Therefore, you are advised to begin your studying the introduction to accounting course with
this booklet because your duty one of the courses is found in it.

After completing duty one of this booklet, you should use your textbook of principles of
accounting and accompanied study guide for the next five duties (duty 2, duty 3, duty 4, duty 5,
and duty 6).

Finally, after having completed the five duties from the mentioned reference materials, you are
also advised to return back to the booklet for duty 7.
Dear students, in order to be successful in this course, you need to follow the guidance’s given
to you in the three accompanied reference materials (Booklet, study guide, and textbook of
Principles of Accounting).
