CHAPTER 3 (PROJECTILE MOTION)

1. Define projectile motion.

2. A ball is thrown upward from the top of a 30 m tower as shown in Figure 1. Calculate
the time taken for the ball to reach the ground.
( Ans : 7.70 s)

3. A football is kicked at an angle 36° with a velocity u= 22ms -1 as shown in Figure 2.

Calculate

i) the time taken for the ball to reach the maximum height. ( Ans : 1.32 s)

ii) the horizontal distance from where the ball is kicked to where it hits the ground.
( Ans : 46.99m s)
iii) the maximum height reached by the ball.
(Ans :8.52 m)

Compute

a) time taken for the ball to reach maximum high. ( Ans : 1.02 s)

b) maximum height reach by the ball. (Ans : 5.10m)

c) total horizontal displacement when the ball reach the ground.

(Ans : 35.33 m)

5. A goalkeeper kicks a ball at an angle of θ=40 ° above the horizontal axis. The
initial speed of the ball is 22.0 ms-1. Neglect the effect of air resistance in your
calculation.

a) Find the time taken of the ball to reach the maximum height.
(Ans :20.38 m/s)

b) Determine the maximum height that the ball attains. (Ans : 10.19 m)

6. A soccer ball is kicked with an initial speed of 10.2 ms -1 in a direction 25.0° above
the horizontal. Calculate the maximum height reached by the ball.
(Ans : 4.36 m)
