Unit Reflection

I am pretty proud of my unit plan, it has been challenging to create a unit plan for a kindergarten

classroom when the lessons I focused on are meant for an older classroom. From not knowing

anything about a unit plan to creating a full unit plan overview where I have learned to

incorporate common core standards, faith-connections in a public school and many more aspects

has been really fulfilling. My five lessons focused on compound words for a kindergarten level

and I am proud on how I created an overview that is acceptable and accessible to a kindergarten

level.

Some things that went well was creating my unit over was learning the basics and really

focussing on integrating those basics for my kindergarteners. Focussing on the definition, and

root words with in the compound word. I thought my understandings went focusing on how the

two separate root words fo a compound words create a different meaning than when they are

separated. Another thing that went well was my performance tasks and making them easy but

still challenging to keep my kindergartners. I have learned that repetition for my students is they

best way to help them learn, so having multiple lessons with different physical tasks and

activities for them to do really helps them learn best.

Some areas for improvement is have common core standards that focus more towards a

kindergarten classroom. It was hard to find common core standards for kindergarteners that had

to deal with compound words, that was defiantly challenging and something I can work on.

Another thing that I seemed to struggle with was my UDL, I want to get better at these. I know

when I first started them I didn’t really have a grasp on what I should we writing and if I could

really incorporate all of the objectives into a lesson plan. I have learned more about UDL as I
have kept making lessons plans and it’s defiantly an area where I want to work on. A smaller

section of the unit plan but somewhere I want to work on more is the learning events, I want to

make sure I have many opportunities and options for my students.

Overall I am proud of myself in creating this unit plan and critiquing it to fit into a

kindergarten classroom. It has been a great opportunity to learn all the steps involving a unit plan

and working through it as I created my lessons plans.
