Yes, Add-Ins are files that add additional functionality to Excel (for more information on using Add-Ins, see the
Microsoft Excel Online Help). Note: Only Excel Add-Ins licensed and distributed by Rockwell Automation are
supported for use with FactoryTalk® Historian SE. The use of newer Excel Add-In versions obtained from OSIsoft
is unsupported.

There are several FactoryTalk Historian Microsoft Excel Add-Ins used to interface with the FactoryTalk Historian
product family:

. PI-SMT - for more information, refer to the online help (also known as PI-
TagConfigurator, superceded by PI Builder in v5.01)
. PI DataLink - for more information, refer to the online help and/or 56418 -
FactoryTalk Historian DataLink: Reporting Tricks for Excel
. PI BatchView - for more information, refer to the online help and/or 54660 - FAQ:
FactoryTalk Historian ProcessBook and FactoryTalk Historian ActiveView
. PI Module Database Builder - for more information, refer to the online help (obsolete
in FactoryTalk Historian SEv5.01)
. PI AF Builder - for more information, refer to the online help (new with FactoryTalk
Historian SE v3.00, superceded by PI Builder in FactoryTalk Historian SE v5.01)
. PI Builder (new with FactoryTalk Historian SE v5.01) Note: Per the Release Notes,
Microsoft Excel 2016 or 2013 (32-bit) is considered a prerequisite for both and
VantagePoint and the FactoryTalk Historian SE Suites (with the exception of Live Data
Interface Suite). However, the Installation Manager does not enforce this
prerequisite. If Excel is not present, the PI Builder Excel Add-in will not be installed. If
Excel is installed after a FactoryTalk Historian SE Suite, then the PI AF Client will need
to be re-installed in order to install the PI Builder Excel Add-in. For more information
on re-installing PI Builder, refer to the FactoryTalk Historian SE Installation and
Configuration Guide. For more information on using PI Builder, visit the OSIsoft
YouTube channel and/or open the MS Excel PI Builder online help to access the PI
Builder User Guide:

This error on the FactoryTalk Historian Server can be ignored. However, the recommendation is to avoid the error
entirely by running the Tag Configurator on an Engineering Workstation (as opposed to the FactoryTalk Historian
Server).
