NEW  /nju:/: mới

Ex: It was these new clothes that we bought at TokyoLife store this morning.
It was the newest news about Covid-19 that we saw this morning.

Synonyms:

1) novel /'nɒvl/: mới lạ (normally used to describe smt which is interestingly


new or unusual)
Ex: It is the most novel ideal I have ever heard before.
2) original /ə'ridʒənl/ : đầu tiên; khởi thủy /độc đáo ( to describe smt which is
present or existing from the beginning / smt which is unusaul)
Ex: Try as I might, I can’t find the original book written about the Revolution
liberating Viet Nam in 30/04/1975.
3) innovative /'inəvətiv/ (in another words: innovatory /'inouveitəri/): đưa vào
nhiều đổi mới (used to feature new methods, advanced and original)
Ex: It is very important for government to create innovative ways to help
homeless and unemployed people, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
4) brand-new /'brænd'nju:/: mới toanh (completely new, emphasise ‘new’)
Ex: We are looking forward to brand-new flims when this pandemic ends.
Note: unique /ju:'ni:k/, unusual /ʌn'ju:ʒl/ and different /'difrənt/
imaginative /i'mædʒinətiv/ and creative /kri:'eitiv/ are not normally used with
the meaning of ‘new’ so I don’t write about them in this document.
