As a former high school teacher, now retired, I de nitely agree with Ms. Stewart.  There were
exceptions, but for the most part they expected to get something for nothing and were
insulted (sometimes enraged) when my standard for them was to actually earn what they felt
they deserved gratis.  The really sad part was, the parents of those kids were no better.

If I had to choose my own words, they would be sel sh, uninformed, disinterested, marginally
educated, uncooperative, loutish, boorish, unimaginative and so forth and so on.

Those are all high school kids you're talking about though aren't they? You're
comparing the  mindsets of teenagers with grown adults with responsibilities. You
don't believe those teenagers grow up to be productive citizens like every generation
has before them? Look at your engineers, scientists, and technology folks. Most are
late 20-early 30 somethings who are working their tails off. I didn't realize mindless

consequences of being sel sh, uninformed, disinterested, marginally educated
(laughable coming from a teacher admitting they didn't do a good job), uncooperative,

Have a wife at home in an extremely high rent area because that's where it's safe to live in our

I believe your view of parenting has promoted the unintended consequence of our children's
laziness and victim generation.  We need to teach our children to learn how to take calculated
risks. Yes, they will have to learn how to do without - just like we did.  It built character.  I
couldn't afford a tv so I did without.  Risk is good for you.  If you are afraid of risk: Why start a
business?  Why ask for a raise?  Why interview for a job? Why move out when mom and dad
will pay for everything, cook meals and do my laundry?

Right on Martha!  Too many of the kiddies today not only do not want to work, they are unable
to do anything because of their lifestyle of being babied all the time.  Very few go to school

Despite the fact I normally love Martha Stewart, her comment irks me since it seems out of

there are unsuccessful Millennials that work their asses off. Economic and political

@Brandon Johnson Baby boomers will be dead by the time the snow akes run the
world, since we're talking about people who are in their 60s and 70s now. My sister-in-

sensitive" to withstand the outside world, and they want everyone else to serve them
like slaves. And guess what? Their parents are conservatives. They have, however, the
bene t of an overly generous grandmother, who has spoiled them rotten and sees to it
that they don't have to make a living, much like parents who let their grown kids live in
