The Elephant’s Nose

A very good morning to the honourable judges, teachers and my fellow

friends. Today, I am going to tell you a story entitiled ”The Elephant’s Nose‘.

A long, long time ago, elephants had no trunks. They only had short noses
about the size of a boot. During that time, there lived a baby elephant who was
very curious. He always asked a lot of questions. He asked the ostrich, ”Mrs
Ostrich, why do you have feathers?‘ He asked the giraffe, ”Mr. Giraffe, what makes
your skin spotty?‘ He asked the hippo, ”Mrs Hippo, why are your eyes so red?‘

One day, the baby elephant became curious about the crocodile. He asked,
”What does the crocodile eat for dinner?‘ ”Sshhhhhh…‘ all the animals quiet up.
But he would not be quiet. He decided to go to the riverside to ask the crocodile
himself. After a long and tiring journey, he reached the grey green river. While he
was walking along the river, he stepped onto something that looked like a log.

Suddenly, it started to move and blinks it eyes. ”Excuse me, have you seen
Mr. Crocodile?‘ asked the baby elephant. ”I am the crocodile,‘ answered the
animal. The baby elephant was so happy. He said, ”Please…help me! What do you
eat for dinner?‘ ”Come…here…And I would tell you,‘ said the crocodile. The
elephant put his head out closer, and the crocodile grabbed him by his nose. The
elephant was in a big trouble. He made him back and pulled and pulled. As he
pulled and pulled, his nose became longer and longer. At last, the crocodile got
tired and let him go.

The baby elephant noticed his nose had grown very long. ”Oh, no! Look at
my nose!‘ cried the baby elephant. He waited for his nose to shrink and go back to
its normal size. He waited and waited but nothing happened. Some people say
that’s how elephants’ trunks became as long as they are today. Thank you.
