Assessment/Evidence of Learning (check the Students will be asked a question at the end of
the activity, they will write in their journal,
space, describe the assessment and purpose): partner share, then volunteer to answer out
loud. I will collect these notes to review and

assess them.

Lesson Body (modeling, guided practice, I will begin by explaining to students that a
frequent checks for understanding) ratio expresses the relationship between two
quantities. Ratios compare two measures of
the same type of item (teachers to students,
females to males) Allow time for students to
come up with a few on their own. Next, have
the students explain what that ratio means.
Have students share their ratio and meaning
with a partner. While students are sharing,
walk around and listen to their responses.
Once students have had time to work with the
language, begin discussing ratio relationships.
I will put several examples on the board to
further extend the learning. Each problem will
be asking students to make a statement about
what it means.
Lesson Closing (review and In their notes, I’m going to have them journal
formative/summative assessment): about the following statements:
Quantity
Part to Part
Part to Whole
Whole to Part
Reflection and Next Steps: Have students look over the chart that was
made at the beginning of class. Ask students if
there are any flawed pieces of information
that can be removed from the chart based
upon what they learned from class today?
Next, ask them if they would like to add
anything to the chart? And finally, ask them if
there is anything on the chart they will stay,
but could be tweaked a bit to make it more
meaningful?
The lesson will be extended over a couple of
days with more activities to further engage the
concept of ratios.
