CHAPMAN |coLinGE or UNIVERSITY | EDUCATIONAL stuDIES Education Specialist ‘Student. Teaching Lesson Planning and Delivery Observation Form Teacher Candidate: Edwin Hernandez —_Date:_n April 9 2020 School Site: Oceancrest School Supervisor: Martha OMeara TPEs Targeted: 5,7,9 ‘Mr, Hernandez teaches in a fourth grade non-public school in Orange County that consists of nine boys. He has two para professionals. All the students are classified as having an emotional disturbance except for one that is classified as other health impatred.Students’ math ability ranges from first to fifth grade. The students have been out of school for three weeks due to COVID-19 virus. Today’s lesson was a group zoom lesson with six students and two para professionals in attendance. The objective of the lesson was for the students to identify four different angles and to demonstrate their understanding of the angles by connecting the angles to various visuals. This is a fourth grade common core math standard. ‘Mr, Hernandez first asked the students why it was important to learn about angles. This helped him to develop some information on their background knowledge of angles. He provided a video presentation of the four different angles and their different applications. Students were asked to divide a paper into four sections, label each of the section, and put the number of degrees fro each of the angles. The paraprofessionals helped the students to participate in this activity and also assessed individuals during the break-out session in a internet angle lesson website. After labeling the four different angle sections, they watched an excellent video of a virtual tour of a Yorba Linda Mansion. This video helped them to see the multiple ways that angles are evident in architecture. This also helped them to connect to the real world, For a follow-up activity, students were divided into two groups. One group worked on a See Saw internet activity to checked on their understanding of angles. The second group used an easier version of an angle follow-up through See Saw. This was an excellent lesson that was well done considering it was a first group lesson with a large group on the internet. Suggetions: * suggest that the students connect 10 minutes before an academic lesson and allow them to chat with one another They should be told that after the ten minutes, all video games should be placed out of reach until the lesson is completed. + Reduce the amount of writing during an internet lesson. Use abbreviations whenever possible because some students take longer than others to write which delays the progression of the lesson. ( Example: ob. an, for obtuse angle) + Anything you show to the students as a written sample should be written in bold lettering because it is difficult to see on the internet. | would also have used flash cards with the different angles printed for easy visualizing and for review practice for the next angle lesson, + Teacher Candidate Goal/Focus for Next Observation: ‘Mr, Hernandez in going to continue to develop strategies appropriate for virtual learning. His next lesson will be a language arts lesson. Teacher Candidate Signature: g Vv Date: Cftfo 7 University Supervisor/Support Provider Signature:, @ [Zin Date:
